15 ABOUT THE AUTHOR Ritwij Shandilya also known as Ritwij Raj is the author of fiction and non fiction based in Agra, Uttar Pradesh. Best known for his work La Couronne De Kanchipuram, Ritwij is one of the youngest world record holder author of the world. At the age of sixteen, he published his debut novel La Couronne De Kanchipuram in French and this made him the youngest Indian author to write a French novel. Ritwij s name was recorded in the Assist World Record Book for the following achievement. Apart from writing, he loves fooding, talking, cricket and travelling. This is his second book at the age of sixteen. xiv

16 PROLOGUE Over twelve thousand people were killed in the war and three hundred of the royal menage lost their home as Kanchipuram lay downits arms in defeat. Crafted in the sixteenth century, the royal crown adorned the ground, caked in blood and sand, devoid of all significance. It didn t command respect as it once did. It just lay there amid the heaped, rotting flesh of fallen soldiers. A dead king s crown commanding an army of the dead, there was not a soul who would cast an eye in its direction now. The smell of death hung thick in the air. Hordes of vultures and crows darkened the sky, waiting to pick the flesh off the dead. Once regarded as heaven on earth, Kanchipuram had descended into hellish chaos. It took only sixty days to rewrite the history, to reshape the terrain and behead the might of Kanchipuram. It was like a gathering of the dead. Decked in ornaments, their regal hairstyles worn long, lying on their backs, staring wide-eyed towards heaven. Every single one of them drenched in blood.
