Pilots have been trained for GBAS approach. In Bremen and Malaga Air Berlin used Honeywell GBAS Station. In Braunschweig (equiped with a THALES GBAS Station from DLR-FL) a comparision conducted by the user gave usefull information on interoperability of GBAS stations. 15 Benefits of GBAS (I) GBAS can provide significant capacity, efficiency, safety and environmental benefits for airlines, airports and air navigation service providers. For Airlines it delivers: fuel savings, noise abatement and reduced emissions from efficient, flexible flight paths less flight disruptions and associated cost caused by ILS interference greater precision guidance for improved safety minimal pilot training. Airports benefit from: improved airport capacity from accurately guided, simultaneous operations to parallel runways and reduced runway exit times flexibility in GBAS station location, unlock valuable airport land and alleviate traffic restrictions which are otherwise required to protect ILS signals from interference sources Source: Airservice Australia Karl-Heinz Keller GBAS 34th ESUG Meeting Folie 16

16 Benefits of GBAS (II) ANSP/Airport benefits: improved airport access, even where ILS cannot be installed for terrain or economic reasons. more accurate, efficient and predictable approaches reduced capital investment cost and lower ongoing maintenance flexibility to add or change final approach procedures without changing system configuration easier and less frequent flight inspections than ILS Source: Airservice Australia Karl-Heinz Keller GBAS 34th ESUG Meeting Folie 17
