6 Meteorology Summary Statewide Overview, Next 24 Hours: Light winds and warm, moist air will make for areas of patchy fog throughout much of North Florida this morning. Today, cloudy skies and scattered showers will be expected throughout Florida at any point during the day. In the morning hours, Northeast Florida has the best rain chances, and as the day progresses some showers will be possible across the Peninsula. Rainfall amounts will generally be light, but isolated stronger showers could produce some locally heavy downpours. Temperatures continue to increase as Florida remains under the influence of a broad high pressure system. Highs in North Florida will be in the upper 60s, possibly reaching 70 degrees. Central and South Florida highs will be in the mid to upper 70s. Overnight low temperatures in North Florida will be in the mid to upper 50s, with Central and South Florida in the low to upper 60s. With warm, moist air and light winds in place tonight, areas of fog will develop overnight across the Peninsula, with patchy fog possible across North Florida. Some of the fog could become locally dense by daybreak Sunday. Low Temperatures Tonight High Temperatures Today
7 Coastal Hazards / Hydrology Rip Currents: Moderate onshore winds between mph and wave heights between 2-3 along all coasts will make for a high rip current risk along Escambia through Okaloosa County beaches in the Western Panhandle and for Palm Beach County in Southeast Florida. A moderate rip current risk is in effect for Walton through Wakulla County beaches along the panhandle and for all beaches along Atlantic Coast. Elsewhere there is a low risk for rip currents. Remember, always swim within sight of a lifeguard. Rip currents can still occur on low risk days! Rip Current Outlook Lake Okeechobee average elevation is feet, which is 1.95 feet below normal for this time of year. Hydrology: A River Flood Warning remains in effect for much of the Santa Fe River and Apalachicola River near Blountstown today as the rivers remain in minor flood stage. The Ocklawaha River at Rodman Dam remains in moderate flood stage. Several other rivers throughout North Florida are in action stage today. Forecasted rain today today will generally be light and are not expected to create additional river rises. Locally heavy downpours in some showers may result in minor urban flooding. For more information on specific rivers, please visit the Southeast River Forecast Center here. Current & Forecast River Conditions
8 Drought & Fire Weather Fire Weather: A low wildfire threat is forecasted for today due to soil moisture levels remaining high, relative humidity levels above critical values, and light winds throughout Florida. A County Burn Ban remains in effect for the 5 counties that are in effect year-round. The Keetch-Byram Drought Index average for Florida is 69 (+3) on a scale from 0 (very moist) to 800 (very dry). There are zero Florida counties with a KBDI above 500. Drought Monitor Active Wildfires (Florida Forest Service)
