6 Meteorology Summary Statewide Overview, Next 24 Hours: The strong cold front that moved through North and Central Florida yesterday has almost cleared through South Florida this morning. Some lingering cloud cover and an isolated shower/thunderstorm will continue across South Florida and the Keys through early afternoon. As dry air continues to move south, clear skies and cool temperatures will be locked in statewide. Breezy winds are expected today statewide which will work to make it feel a few degrees cooler than it actually is. Winds will be out of the northwest at mph with some gusts of mph during the afternoon. Despite full sunshine, temperatures will only reach the lower 50s in North Florida and lower 60s in Central Florida. Overnight, skies will be clear statewide. Temperatures will quickly fall with a freeze expected across all of inland North Florida. Freeze Warnings are in effect as at least a few hours below freezing is expected. Freezing temperatures are also possible across interior sections of the Nature Coast and a Freeze Watch is in effect. Some patchy frost is possible even across Central Florida. Light winds will continue, making it feel like temperatures are in the 20s in the Panhandle. Chance of Rain Today High Temperatures Today

7 Coastal Hazards / Hydrology Rip Currents: Offshore winds are expected at Panhandle and Atlantic beaches keeping the rip current risk low to moderate. However, winds will be onshore along the west coast and the rip current risk will be high from Pinellas to Lee County beaches. Wave heights will be 2-4 at Florida beaches and higher offshore. Remember, always swim within sight of a lifeguard. Rip currents can still occur on low risk days! Rip Current Outlook Lake Okeechobee average elevation is feet, which is 1.65 feet below normal for this time of year. Hydrology: Rainfall from the last few days has put Econfina Creek in Bay County and the Chipola River at Scott s Ferry into minor flood stage. These waterways will be cresting today or tomorrow. A handful of other rivers across North Florida remain in action stage. The rainfall today in South Florida poses no flood threat. The next few days will be dry statewide. 8 Tropical Weather Tropics: Tropical cyclone formation is not expected over the next five days. For more information regarding the tropics, please visit

9 Drought & Fire Weather Fire Weather: A moderate wildfire threat is expected statewide today. In the Panhandle, relative humidity will be low, winds breezy (northwest at mph), but recent rainfall has left soils and fuels wet. Fallen timber from Michael poses a hazard, however. In the Peninsula, relative humidity will approach critical levels (particularly across interior Central Florida). Winds will be out of the northwest at mph gusting to 25 mph and areas of dry fuels/moderate drought exist across the region. Fire Weather Watches (tan shading on map below) are in effect for Wednesday as Red Flag conditions may be met. County burn bans are in effect for 7 counties, including 2 in the Panhandle in the wake of Hurricane Michael and 5 in the Peninsula that are prohibited year-round. The Keetch-Byram Drought Index average for Florida is 344 (+3) on a scale from 0 (very moist) to 800 (very dry). There are currently 8 Florida counties with a KBDI above 500. Light solar winds will continue through midweek. By this weekend, a surge of solar winds may reach Earth from the labeled coronal hole and result in geomagnetic storming. The space weather threat to Florida remains very low.
