The Opening Day win over No. 7 Oklahoma State also gives UTA 7 wins over top-10 opponents in the same timeframe. -- Since not making it out of the third inning in his first career start on Opening Day, Kadon Simmons has been lights out for the Mavs. In three appearances since, including two starts, Simmons is 3-0 with a 1.20 ERA and an opponent s average of just.193 in 15.0 innings of work. He has struck out 14 with just two walks in that span. - Quintin Rohrbaugh is the only Maverick to reach base in all 13 games played this season and is currently carrying an 11-game hit streak. He has eight multi-hit games, including multiple hits in each of his last four contests. - Christian Hollie s four RBI in the series finale vs Texas A&M-Corpus Christi gives him 16 for the season, a mark that leads the Sun Belt. As a team the Mavs lead the SBC with a.310 batting average. - RJ Williams swiped 3 bases in UTA s 13-5 rout at Stephen F. Austin. It was the first time in the Darin Thomas era a Mav has had 3 steals in a single game and the first time any Mav has pulled off the feat since Nathan Warrick stole 3 bags on Feb against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Through 13 games the Mavs have already scored 87 runs on 144 hits compared to just 63 runs on 120 hits through 13 games in ROHRBAUGH ROLLING: The UTA coaching staff got a big coux when thhey landed Quintin Rohrbaugh from Weatherford College for this season, and early on the junior outfielder has not disapponited. A year removed from being named the NTJCAC Hitter of the Year at WC, Rohrbaugh is one of only two Mavs (along with Christian Hollie) to have reached base safely in every game so far this season. He is currently riding an 11-game hit streak during which he is hitting.512 with eight multi-hit games. Currently he leads the team and is second in the SBC with a.469 average for the season. KUHNEL S BREAKOUT SUMMER: Junior Joel Kuhnel was the regular Sunday starter for UTA in 2015, but has taken on the Friday role in He struck out 45 hitters in 83.1 innings with a 3.55 ERA as a sophomore, but put himself on the national radar after a breakout summer as part of the Liberal Bee Jays in the Jayhawk League. There he pitched primarily out of the pen, notching a 2-0 record with a 0.00 ERA in 8 appearances with 3 saves and 20 strikeouts. Following his stint in Liberal he was named the Jayhawk League s top prospect by both Baseball America and Perfect Game. So far this season he is 2-1 with a 1.94 ERA in three starts and ranks in the top 10 in the SBC in innings pitched. THOMAS GUNNING FOR 250 WINS: Head coach Darin Thomas entered this season with 236 career coaching victories under his belt, all at UT Arlington, and has added 8 more wins to that total over. With 6 more wins he will become only the second UTA coach in history to reach 250 wins as a Mav, and currently ranks second all-time in coaching wins at the school, trailing only legendary coach Butch McBroom who won 756 games from GLOBE LIFE GAME: For the fourth consecutive season the Mavs will temporarily relocate across Arlington for a single night to take on one of the Big 12 s best when they battle Texas Tech on March 15 at Globe Life Park. Since 2013, UTA has taken on at least one Power 5 team at the home of MLB s Texas Rangers and picked up its first win at that park last season with a 6-5, extra-innings victory over the Texas Longhorns. Other previous games include meetings with TCU, Texas A&M and Oklahoma. JACOB S LADDER: Senior reliever Jacob Moreland has been a mainstay in the UTA bullpen in his four years with the Mavs, and his career totals are beginning to add up. Already this year he has made 7 appearances, giving him 68 for his career. He currently ranks eighth all-time at UTA and he now needs to make 2 more to tie Chase Weaver for seventh as a Maverick. GETTING OFFENSIVE: Offense has not been an issue for UTA in the ealry portion of the season, and the production has picked up of late. After facing one of the top pitching staffs in the country in 2 of the first 3 games of the year against Oklahoma State, the Maverick offense has taken off, going for at least 10 hits in 9 of its last 10 games. As a team the Mavs are hitting.337 and averaging 8.0 runs per game in that span. DR. OF DEFENSE, Jr.: Senior second baseman Darien McLemore is no stranger to defense, growing up as the son of 19-year Major League veteran Mark McLemore. His dad posted a.981 fielding percentage as a pro, and Darien is doing some excellent glovework of his own this season. McLemore has yet to commit and error this season in 66 chances, and dating back to last season has been error free for each of his last 20 games.
