31 Presentation, desription TeSys protetion omponents Eletroni over urrent relays 09 Presentation LR9 D 00 LT LR9 D and LT eletroni over urrent relays have been developed to satisfy mahine protetion requirements. These relays have definite time harateristis: urrent threshold and time based funtion. They are partiularly reommended for providing mehanial protetion on mahines with high resistive torque, high inertia and with strong probability of jamming under steady state onditions. They an be used for motor protetion in the ase of long starting times or frequent starting. The LR9 D relay also inorporates two fixed time protetion funtions, one of 0. seonds against loked rotor and one of seonds against phase failure. LR9 D and LT an be used to provide mehanial shok protetion. In this ase, setting the O-Time knob to minimum will ensure tripping in 0. seonds. Appliations LR9 D and LT relays are partiularly suitable for the following mahines: b Monitoring funtion for exessively long starting time on mahines with a risk of diffiult starting: v Mahines with high resistive torque, high inertia mahines. b Monitoring of mahines during steady state operation: overtorque detetion funtion v Mahines with strong risk of jamming, mahines with torque build-up over time, v Mehanial failure monitoring, v Faster detetion of malfuntioning on mahines where the motor is oversized in relation to its thermal protetion I²t. b Motor protetion for speifi appliations: v Mahines with long starting times, v Mahines with high on-load fator: more than 0 to 0 starts/hour, v Mahine with flutuating load from a steady state, where the thermal image of a thermal overload relay (thermal memory) is unsuitable in relation to atual overheating of the motor. Examples of mahines: v v v v Conveyors, rushers and mixers, Fans, pumps and ompressors, Centrifuges and spin-dryers, Presses, shearing mahines, saws, broahing mahines, sanders and lifting hoists. Operation Beause of their two separate time settings, LR9 D and LT relays an be ombined with the motor-starter funtion: D-Time: starting time, O-Time: trip time during steady state. The D-Time funtion is only available during the motor starting phase. During this phase the overload detetion funtion is inhibited in order to allow starting. Under steady state onditions, when the motor urrent is greater than the setting urrent due to an overload or single-phasing, the red LED lights up and the internal relay swithes its ontat after a time preset by the O-Time knob. The red LED stays on, indiating that the relay has tripped. The relays are simple to set, in easy steps: - Adjust the knobs to maximum (Load, D-Time and O-Time), - Adjust the D-Time knob to the value orresponding to the motor starting time. - When the motor reahes steady state, adjust the Load knob (turn the knob ounter-lokwise until the red LED starts to fliker). - - Slowly turn the Load knob lokwise until the LED goes out. Set the required tripping time, using the O-Time knob.
