EPISODE 1
It was a cloudy, rainy day. Raymond and Josh sat looking out the window and wished the rain would stop. It was Saturday, and they wanted to play outside.
I want the sun to come out, Josh sighed to himself. Then I could go outside. Josh s mother called, Josh, since it s raining today, maybe you could clean the attic like you promised. Oh Mom, do I have too? whined Josh. Well, you can t go outside today, replied Josh s Mom. Maybe Raymond will help you. If both of you work together, the attic will be clean in no time. Raymond and Josh walked up to the attic. When they opened the door, they saw a BIG mess. This is going to take a long time, Josh thought to himself. As Josh was moving things around in the attic, he noticed a big, old brown trunk. I wonder what s in here, said Josh. Let s open it, replied Raymond. Josh opened the trunk. He saw lots of neat things.
Look, a spaceship! exclaimed Josh. As Josh went to pick up the spaceship, he disappeared. WHOOSH! Raymond was confused. How could Josh disappear like that? He noticed that the spaceship was lying on the floor next to the trunk. As Raymond went to pick it up, he also disappeared. WHOOSH! This is a magical spaceship. Anyone who touches it is taken to a magical place.

Where are we? asked Josh. It looks like we are in a spaceship flying in outer space, said Raymond. You are in a spaceship, said Ella Umbrella. Ella is a big, beach umbrella and commander of the spaceship, Solar. Look, there s the sun! exclaimed Raymond. You know, said Ella, we are really lucky to have the sun. Plants, animals, and people could not live without the sun. When it shines, it provides us with warmth and daylight. The sun gives trees and plants the energy they need to grow. Without trees, we wouldn t have wood and paper. Without plants, we wouldn t have a lot of the foods we eat, such as fruits and vegetables. Some people even use the energy from the sun to heat their houses in the winter and to heat their water, Ella Explained.

That s called solar energy, said Josh, proud of himself. You re right! replied Ella. Raymond and Josh were curious about the sun. They wanted to know more. So they asked Ella to tell them. There are good and bad things about the sun. You know that solar energy is a good thing that the sun provides. But, too much sun can be a problem, Ella said. What kind of a problem? asked Josh. Well, have you ever walked barefoot on the sidewalk in the middle of a summer day? asked Ella. Yes, replied Josh. I remember one time that I forgot to wear my shoes, and it hurt my feet. Ouch! Ella wanted to talk more about the sun with Raymond and Josh. What happens to a newspaper that has been left outside for several days? asked Ella.

Well, said Josh, the words fade, and the paper turns yellow. Exactly, said Ella. This is caused by the sun s rays. The sun can evaporate water, it can make you hot and thirsty, and it can hurt your skin if you aren t careful. Ella was about to tell Raymond and Josh one more thing about the sun. But, all of a sudden, a BIG asteroid came toward the spaceship. The asteroid was about to hit the spaceship when KAZAAM! Raymond and Josh returned safely to the attic. Boy, that was scary! exclaimed Raymond. It sure was, said Josh. But, it was also kind of fun. Let s see what else is in the trunk.
EPISODE 2
Raymond ran over to the trunk and pulled out a toy dragon. All of a sudden, WHOOSH! Raymond disappeared, and the toy dragon fell to the floor. Josh picked up the dragon, and he, too, disappeared. WHOOSH! Both Raymond and Josh found themselves in the middle of an enchanted forest. As they were walking, Josh tripped over a tree branch.
I m sorry about that, said Sherman Shadetree. I guess that I d better watch where I put my branches. Sherman is a tall shade tree with long branches and lots of little green leaves. Because Sherman is so big, he makes lots of shade.
Where are we? asked Raymond. You re in the Land of Magic. This is a place with castles and dragons, replied Sherman. Real dragons! Josh exclaimed. Yes, real dragons! replied Sherman. Put on these suits of armor. You need to protect your skin from the fire-breathing dragons. Protect our skin? asked Raymond. Yes, said Sherman. Skin is a great thing. It keeps water and dirt out of your body. It controls your body s temperature by letting you sweat when you re hot. The nerves in your skin give you the sense of touch which helps you know if something is soft or rough, and hot or cold. Your skin protects everything on the inside of your body. So our skin is like these suits of armor? asked Josh. Not exactly, replied Sherman. Human skin isn t as strong as that. It can be hurt. It can be cut or bruised, scraped or burned.

Burned? asked Josh. Do you mean like when you spill hot soup on yourself or get too close to a campfire or a fire-breathing dragon? Yes, said Sherman. But also by the sun s strong rays. Oh, you mean a sunburn! said Josh. Right! A sunburn is your body s way of telling you that you ve gotten too much sun and that you re hurting your skin, explained Sherman. Sometimes your skin will turn red and really hurt. However, not everyone s skin turns red when it gets too much sun. So, it s important to be careful whenever you are out in the sun. Raymond and Josh were beginning to catch on. Raymond remembered that he had gotten a sunburn last summer when he went swimming with his family. He stayed outside all day, and his skin got hot and hurt. That was one bad sunburn! Raymond knew he didn t want that to happen again. Now I know it s important to protect my skin from getting a sunburn, replied Raymond. But did you know that getting a sunburn isn t the only way to tell if your skin is getting too much sun? asked Sherman. You mean there are other ways, replied Josh.

Yes, said Sherman. People have different types of skin. Different types of skin react differently to the sun. Some people get freckles, some sunburn, and some tan. As you get older, like your parents and grandparents, you may get wrinkles. All of these things are your body s way of telling you that you ve gotten too much sun.
I guess I d better keep my skin healthy and safe by protecting it from the sun when I m outside on a sunny day, said Josh. Oh, but you also need to be careful on cloudy days because the sun s rays can filter through the clouds, responded Sherman. Even if your skin doesn t feel hot, you can still be getting too much sun and sunburn. I didn t know that, said Josh. So, I need to protect my skin on sunny and cloudy days. Is there anything else that I need to know? Well said Sherman. Look out! A fire-breathing dragon is coming towards us. Just as the dragon was about to attack them KAZAAM! Raymond and Josh returned safely back to the attic. Can you believe we flew in a spaceship and were almost eaten by a dragon?! said Raymond amazed.
EPISODE 3
Hoping the adventures would continue, Josh went over to the big, brown trunk to see what else was in it. The last thing in the old trunk was a little toy sailboat. Knowing what would happen if they touched it, both Raymond and Josh picked up the sailboat together and disappeared. WHOOSH!
Raymond and Josh found themselves on a BIG sailboat. They were sailing out in the middle of the ocean. Ahoy there mate, called Willie Widebrim. Welcome aboard the S.S. Sunshine. My name is Willie Widebrim, and I m the skipper of this ship. Over here is Susan Sunscreen. She s my first mate.
Where are we? asked Raymond. We re sailing in the Atlantic Ocean and heading towards land, said Susan. Land ho! Land ho! yelled Willie. Look at those mountains on the island up ahead. They sure are big! said Josh. Have you ever visited the mountains? asked Susan. No, answered Josh. Well, said Willie. When you go up to the mountains, you will be going higher and higher. Wow, responded Josh. Will I be able to touch the stars? You know I was in a spaceship Shh Raymond interrupted. Let s keep our adventures between us, Josh. You were where? asked Willie. Um, I forgot what I was saying, said Josh.
That s okay, said Willie. When you go up to the mountains, you get higher and closer to the sun. The sun s rays are stronger at higher locations, like the mountains. This is because higher locations are closer to the sun and it takes less time for skin to sunburn. So it s important to protect my skin all of the time, even when I visit the mountains, said Raymond. Yes, that s right, Susan replied. Now there s one last thing you should know. Have you heard of the equator? The equator? said Josh. Let me pull out my map. See this line, Susan said as she pointed out the line to Raymond and Josh. That s the equator. The equator is the imaginary line around the center of the Earth.
The closer you live to the equator, the stronger the sun s rays. So, it is easier to get a sunburn when you live closer to the equator, explained Susan. I guess that I need to protect my skin no matter where I live, Josh replied. You re a fast learner, said Susan. Right at that moment, the weather starting getting rough. It began to rain, and the ocean waves were getting really big. The sailboat was about to turn over when KAZAAM! Raymond and Josh found themselves back in the attic. Wow! said Raymond. What a day! Yes, it was a fun day. But, remember all of the important things you learned. Protecting your skin is something you need to do everyday, said Ella, Sherman, Willie, and Susan in very quiet and distant voices. Did you hear something...? asked Josh.
