RE~ORT ON GEOCHEMICAL SURVEY TIMBASKET AND MOGUL MINERAL CLAIMS Kinbasket Lake, B. C. 51 degrees 118 degrees N.E. J.F.V. MILLAR, P. Eng. Lease held by J.F.V. MILLAR Work done Sept Oct. 3, 1967.
REPORT ON GEOCHEMICAL SURVEY OF TIMBASKET AND MOGUL CROWN GRANTED MINERAL CLAIMS October llth, INTRO D UC TI0 N The purpose of this report is to record the procedure and results of a geochemical survey carried out on the two crown granted claims "Timbasket" and "Mogul", between September 22 and October 3rd, These claims are situated on the extreme southwest corner of Kinbasket Lake, which occupies the Rocky Mountain Trench about 60 miles north of Golden, B.C. Lying north of the Windy River, the claims lie some 500 to 2000 feet above the shore of Kinbasket Lake. Access to the area is via the Big Bend Highway north from Golden to the Sullivan River, which enters Kinbasket Lake from the east. From there, boats must be used to reach the west shore. Access to the northern workings has been facilitated by a trail from the beach, but elsewhere on the property, traversing is hampered by the combination of steep slopes and heavy vegetation. The two claims are held under the terms of a twenty-one year lease by J. F.V. Millar, of Calgary.

2. The property covers a short section of highly contorted Proterozoic limestones, quartz mica schists and Exploration during the late 1800's was directed toward the massive galena found in the irregular quartz veins in the trough of the main drag fold on the Mogul claim. During exploration of the zone during 1950 the galena-sphalerite replacement in limestone was discovered. Following a period of surface exploration, the property was drilled during 1951 by Consolidated Mining and Smelting Company of Canada. The limestone replacement mineralization follows zones of fracturing associated with the drag folding of the metamorphosed sediments. One such zone has been explored on the surface for over a thousand feet. In the quartz mica schist lying in the previously mentioned synclinal trough and associated with the massive galenaquartz veins, has been found a zone of silicious lenses carrying galena, sphalerite and pyrite. The object of the present exploration programme was to explore the limestone section and the quartz mica schist to the south of Lunch Creek by geochemical means, prior to trenching. PROCEDURE A baseline was established as indicated on the accom- panying map, and from this baseline, sample lines were laid out on bearings S 50 degrees W and N 50 degrees E. Samples were taken at 50 foot intervals (by pacing) along the sample lines.
3. At each sample point, a soil sample was taken by clearing away the humus and digging a hole to within six inches of bedrock. The soil profile at this level was generally brownish to grey, with little evidence of the organic humus appearing. A small trowelsized sample was placed in an appropriately labelled plastic bag and kept for further analysis. Flags were placed at each sample point. The 130 samples that were taken were tested for heavy metal content (lead, zinc). This was facilitated use of the Dithizone method for determination of heavy metals. The test is very reliable and excellent for field purposes. To half a teaspoon on screened 60-mesh soil, one ml. of sodiumacetate, acetic acid, one ml. dithizone and one ml. of toluene was added. Upon shaking, a colour change from green to red indicates a positive test. The results were plotted on the accompanying map. DISCUSSION OF RESULTS The survey indicates at least two areas warranting further investigation. The first, and of primary interest, is the series of anomalous readings following the limestone band and below the trail. These lie nearly exactly on the continuation, in the limestone, of the long replacement zone explored to the northwest. This work would suggest a continuation of the zone through, nearly to the crest of the major drag fold on the Mogul claim. The single anomalous reading on line 2, #510, warrants investigation, if only to check the relationship between that and the mineralization explored in the long trench immediately to the south.
4. The anomalous readings in the quartz mica schist, line 1, #525, should be checked by check sampling and a subsequent closer 'grid'. It is interesting to note that the soil sampling over the schist mineralization, e. g. line 4, sample 1, 2, did not show any anomalous metal content. The high trace element readings are therefore considered important as minimum readings. The other significant feature of the survey is the minimum amount of downhill migration of the anomalous metal content in the soil. This would appear to support the premise that geochemistry is a valid and useful tool in an area such as this. The overburden deepens toward the south, making a normal soil survey of dubious advisability. It would be necessary to cross the hillside by a series of bulldozer cuts, which, in addition to explosing this favourable geological area, also could be soil sampled.
5. RECOMMENDATIONS The anomalous zone below the access trail should trenched at 50 foot intervals based on the anomalous zone con- figuration resulting from this survey. The actual trenching should be preceded by a closer geochemical survey on cross lines matching the proposed trenches. Check samples should be taken at the other anomalous zones prior to trenching and again finer grids run to more closely define the anomalous zones. For this work, the field and laboratory kits should be used. The field kits could be used for rough delineation with the laboratory used as a control check. Trenching should follow up any consistent field anomaly.
