8 Site Access The following directions are somewhat round about, but are required to avoid driving through private property and getting stopped by locked gates, etc. Starting about ¼ north of Hollister (Idaho), turn off from Hiway 93 toward the west. The first few hundred meters will climb a hill toward the south before heading west on an asphalt road. Follow this road to the west for 4 miles. Turn right (north) onto 2000 East and head north 1.5 miles. This road will be gravel. After 1.5 miles, turn left (west) and go another mile to the west, following a sharp curve toward the northwest. Always stay on the most traveled road. After that one mile, you will intersect a canal. Right before that canal, take a left off the 1900 E., driving parallel to the canal and just on the south side of it. After about ¼ mile, the road will head west, away from the canal. This will be 2700 N (not marked). Drive 1.1 mile to the west, and right after crossing through a fence and over a cattle guard, turn left (south) onto 1800 E. This road will head along the west side of a fence line. Drive south 4.5 miles, through two or three gates, which may or may not be closed. Please close the gates immediately behind you, as there may be cattle around (hiding in the bushes, waiting for you to leave the gate open. Hollister cattle do that). After the 4.5 miles of heading south, you will be at the eastern fringe of the equipment site. If it is muddy at all, please park on 1800 E and walk in. It will only be about a ¼ mile (400 m) walk. A is Hollister, B is the site. Total drive is 13 miles, but may take 46 minutes. Be careful!

10 Access Instructions to Specific Sites, once on site: The LAS Receiver site (south site) is 110 m north of a small east-west vehicle track that is accessed from the primary north-south road (1800 East) 450 m to the east. That east-west track is just north of an east-west fence-line. Park on the east-west vehicle track and walk the 110 m north to the LAS receiver site. The Eddy Covariance site no. 1 is 110 m NE of the small SE-NW vehicle track that is accessed by following the SE-NW vehicle track for about 0.7 miles in from 1800 East. Park on the track and walk the 110 m into the EC site no. 1. The Eddy Covariance site no. 2 is 110 m SW of the same small SE-NW vehicle track that is accessed by following the SE-NW vehicle track for about 0.4 miles in from 1800 East. Park on the track and walk the 110 m into the EC site no. 1. The LAS Transmitter site (north site) must be accessed by foot, only from 1800 East. This site is 550 m (0.35 miles) west of 1800 E (the primary road). There is a faint east-west vehicle track from 1800 East that can be followed by foot. No vehicle access is allowed to preserve the terrain and to reduce notice by potential vandals (other than the UIdaho kind). Please stay on the roads marked with green in the above figure. This will help protect the sites from vandalism by minimizing off-road traffic, will sustain integrity of vegetation and fetch for the equipment, will abide by the US-BLM permit, and will reduce the total length of vehicle track that we impact.
