3 OGS Web Site The new version of the society s web site has been up and running for two years. Here is a short summary of the traffic on the web site - who has been visiting the web site and how often it has been visited. There are different things that the website management software can record. The web site management software can record the IP addresses of the number of Unique Visitors. The software can also record the Number of Visits by the visitors. The Pages statistic is the total number of pages viewed by the visitors. Finally, the Hits are the total number of all the viewed pages. That means a single page can be viewed multiple times during a single visit. In figure 1, we have the monthly history of visits to the web site. From 2004 to 2005, the number of Unique Visitors and the number of Pages that they visited also almost doubled. But, the number of Hits has only increased by 29%. A possible explanation is that once the public understands the layout of the web site, they don t need to explore it as much as before. Figure 1. We do have some surprising visitors from around the world. For 2005, the next two largest contingents come from the European Union/Europe and Canada. There were visitors from Israel, South Africa, Japan, and China. We also have visitors from the United Arab Emirates, Iran, and from Saudi Arabia.

The most popular page is the home page ( with the second most popular pages being the Publications page and the Links page. Next in popularity are the Newsletters, Officers, Meetings, Memberships, and Other Events pages. Also showing up on the list is the Lake Erie talk presentation. Starting in 2005, many more people were starting to read the newsletters from the web page.
