1 SIXTH Scientific Inquiry 1s Measurement 2s Physical/chemical properties 3s Rock cycle 4s Properties of soil 5s Earth systems Core mantel, oceanic/crustal plates, 6s This is a Teacher's Guide for Rocketry. Learn about the history, scientific principles and mathematics of Rockets through exciting problem-solving and cooperative learning activities the Milky Way at 10 million light years from the Earth. Then move through space towards the Earth in successive orders of magnitude until you reach a tall oak tree just outside the buildings of the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory in Tallahassee, Florida. After that, begin to move from the actual size of a leaf into a microscopic world that reveals leaf cell walls, the cell nucleus, chromatin, DNA and finally, into the subatomic universe of electrons and protons. This educator's guide features exercises grouped into five units: 1) introduction to geologic processes, 2) impact cratering activities, 3) planetary, 4) planetary surfaces, and 5) geologic mapping. To simulate, by hand, how a computer may process digital images into color pictures and to learn how a planetary geoscientist interprets these pictures. This activity has been designed as a comfortable introduction to describing meteorites. It helps students become better observers by making a connection between the familiar (candy bars) and the unfamiliar (meteorites). Edible "rocks" are used in a scientific context, showing students the importance of observation, teamwork, and communication skills. Using everyday terms, students draw and describe the food.. They attempt to match their observations with short descriptions written in geologic "Field Note" style. To describe, sort, and define soils on Earth To observe the effects of wind erosion on sand. The focus of this activity is on the folding and faulting of layered playdough which is used to represent layered rock. Folds show up best in layered rock but can also occur in unlayered rock such as granite. Gelatin, molded in bowls or bread pans, is used as transparent models of volcanic landforms. Colored water is used as the dike-forming magma. To understand some of the geological processes and the structures that form as lava flows across planetary landscapes by using cake batter as an analog for lava

2 Earth systemsplate tectonics 7s Earth s wateroceans, fresh water, glaciers, ground water, salinity, density 8s In this interactive, examine some of these models and other graphics that reveal details of the tsunami from its initial generation in deep water to its deadly collision with coasts around the Indian Ocean Overview: This lesson asks students to consider how the movement of the Earth's tectonic plates alters the physical characteristics of places over geologic time. Students will investigate how climate has changed in specific world regions since the time of the dinosaurs and will write paragraphs explaining their findings. Connections to the Curriculum: Geography, history, technology, earth science Connections to the National Geography Standards: Standard 4: "The physical and human characteristics of places" CONCEPT: The importance of the ocean is evident in its life forms, physical features and resources. CONTENT OBJECTIVE: 7I6.00 To understand the physical features of the ocean INSTRUCTIONAL OBJECTIVES: The learner will: 2.01 be able to construct a model ocean basin complete with appropriate terminology 2.02 recognize that the morphology of the ocean basins is varied and extensive 2.03 describe mid-ocean ridges and how they are formed 2.04 relate vertical movement in the crust of the earth with Eniwetok Atoll. Magic Disappearing Balls SUBJECT AREA: Physics CONCEPTS: Density. Sound waves, water waves, light waves 9s SEVENTH Plant growthchange ph, light, temp) 10s Classification- Fungi, Plants 11s This educator's guide contains background information on the Space Amateur Radio Experiment (SAREX) designed to facilitate communication between astronauts in orbit with students on the ground. Hands-on activities in this guide explore concepts related to amateur radio in the areas of science, mathematics, and technology This NASA educator's guide contains activities for grades K-12 in Science and Math. It has color and light activities using lenses, prisms, hidden messages, periscopes, and kaleidoscopes. To describe, sort, and define soils on Earth Students will grow AstroPlants through a life cycle, and in the process will become well aquainted with germination, orientation, growth, flowering, pollination, fertilization, embryogenesis and seed development.

3 Classification- Animals Human biology 12s Human biology 13s EIGHTH Scientific Inquiry 14s Properties of elementsacids/bases/chemi cal reactions 15s Physics 16s Force-Potential- Kinetic 17s Weather/climatesystems, energy, 18s Earth s waters, systems, energy 19s The study of the ways in which the body's brain, spinal cord, and network of nerves control the activities of animals and humans is called neuroscience. This guide targets a high school audience and provides background material and activities related to NASA's Neurolab research Space Food and Nutrition An Educator's Guide with Activities in Science, Mathematics, and Technology Education Objectives: To enable students to: Learn from different original sources; books, articles, stories, movies, television shows. Critically analyze and glean information from different types of media. Practice visual literacy and visual acuity when learning from electronic media. Learn about the history of technology. Understand that science fiction and technology share a deep symbiotic relationship. Understand how science fiction is enabled and influenced by technology. Understand how technology is influenced by science fiction. Cafeteria Coke Joke CONCEPTS: Solubility and solutions. Defying Gravity: Students Explore the Physics of Spaceflight The paper rocket in this activity is propelled according to the principle stated in Isaac Newton's third law of motion: "For every action there is an opposite and equal reaction." Gas pressure builds inside the film canister due to the mixing of Alka-Seltzer and water. This action continues until enough pressure builds to blow apart the canister from its lid. The reaction is the launch of the rocket. Investigating the Climate System Clouds html In this interactive, examine some of these models and other graphics that reveal details of the tsunami from its initial generation in deep water to its deadly collision with coasts around the Indian Ocean CONCEPT: The importance of the ocean is evident in its life forms, physical features and resources. Magic Disappearing Balls SUBJECT AREA: Physics CONCEPTS: Density. War of the Worlds: Attack from Mars EALRs: Social Studies, Communication, the Arts, Reading, Writing, Science This unit will introduce students to the phenomenon of The War of the Worlds and its various retellings. It is a story of society's fear of invasion by outsiders nowhere is this fear more clearly demonstrated than in the reaction of the radio audience in 1938 to the original radio play of The War of the Worlds. The examination of this legendary hoax allows students to observe the power media has to heighten our sense of fear of "outsiders." The lesson also highlights our evolving knowledge about the planet Mars and its ability to sustain life. Included artifacts and a recording of the original broadcast will allow students to experience this piece of history firsthand. n.html Investigations in this NASA Educator Guide explore the question of whether there is water on Mars. To understand the relationship between planetary orbits around the Sun and our measure of time. Your birthday is actually a celebration of a trip made by Earth around the Sun one time. For each trip around our star we "age" one year... or at least that is how we humans express it. How "old" are you on the other eight planets in our solar system? Purpose: To demonstrate orbital motions and forces using a tennis ball swung by a ribbon Astronomy 23s Interactions in the solar system 24s Saturn Educator Guide venture_is_waiting_activity_6-8.html Welcome to a dynamic education program to build student skills in both science and language arts.
