From the Ground Up: Organization, Space, and Movement In the first year of studio, we were tasked with creating a museum within a theoretical site. The challenge was that because of the size of the site, we were only allowed to build vertically, not horizontally. I drew inspiration from the movement of a toetouch jump seen in cheerleading and from there, came up with the final form of the museum.

Restaurant By the Sea Located at the harbor on Horseneck Beach in Westport, MA, this restaurant by the sea takes dining on the water to a whole new level. Patrons can chose to dine while enjoying the view of the rock garden and waterfall located in the center of the building, or they can chose to go down a floor and literally chose to dine on the water.

Providence Natural History Museum: Travel Up the Third Dimension Stemming from a study of the appearance of grids that occur in nature, the Natural History Museum of Providence takes a new form in idea of the history of the earth through a combination of many grids that stem from the second to third dimension. Located in the historic Jewelry district in Providence, Rhode Island, the museum is nestled within a city of great history and knowledge of the world around us and how the earth became what it is today. Visitors to the museum will experience a whole new sense of the history of the earth through three dimensional exhibits and close interaction with the many different species that helped to make up the earth as we know it today.

Boston Center for the Innovation of Science and Technology Located just a short walk away from the Boston Commons, the Boston Center for the Innovation of Science and Technology is a haven for those with an interest in the utilization of robotics in everyday life. The site posed many different challenges; as an urban infill, one such challenge was the lack of a facade on every side. Conceptually, each floor of the building corresponds to a different aspect of the design process: idea, design, prototype, refine, present; while each floor specializes in these different phases, there is room for overlap between each step. Each floor is centralized around the same hub: the multi-story atrium space that spans from the ground level to the very top level.

Hybrid Building: Zürich, Switzerland The concept of a hybrid building has always been one of complex and complicated meaning. How do we define a hybrid building? Is it something that combines two uses into one? Or is it something that has many different uses in one building? It is this question that is the basis of this studio s exploration of the concept of hybrid within a site located in Zürich, Switzerland. Throughout the semester, this studio challenged us to come up with our own answers to the question of the hybrid building. We were given an initial building program of very different programmatic uses and were asked to design a cohesive building that incorporates these programmatic elements. This studio focuses on a site that, located within Zürich s Kreis-5, is not yet developed due to the fractured interests of the owners and the political climate that currently surrounds District 5 s future planning. The site offers a great amount of potential as it is in direct proximity to the Viadukt and all the pedestrian access it offers.
