19 Conclusions The majority of Spanish cities have been affected to a greater or lesser extent by processes of urban expansion. Traditional cities have lost their attractiveness as a result of relocation and residential activities. Now it is diluted among other cities and small towns and their surroundings. Decline the concept of traditional city and metropolitan reality makes sense of what we could define as a "city of cities : an urban system in which each nucleus plays a role. - Large urban areas-metropolitan areas, such as Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Seville, Bilbao and Zaragoza - Diffuse coastal developments associated with tourism. - Conurbations, that is, areas where the growth of several urban settlements has led to the merger of their peripheries resulting in a continuous built-up area. - Medium and small cities where positive growth of the population is still recorded and the classic city-region relations are maintained.
