4 1. About Abu Dhabi Abu Dhabi is the capital of UAE and the largest capital of the seven Emirates that make up with over 80% of its landmass. The emirate s population, now over 1.6 million, is growing at an average annual rate of 4.7%. Across the UAE, Emirati citizens make up nearly 20% of the total population; the other 80% are expatriates from Asia, Africa, Australia, Europe and North America.

7 2.1 The Establishment & Reason for Creation Establishment o Established p pursuant to Law No. 4 of yyear 2006 as the department p to oversee the aviation and maritime sectors in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi o Law No. 5 of year 2008 establishes the DoT as the party concerned with overseeing surface transport and transport infrastructure in Abu Dhabi Why was DoT created? o To cover Abu Dhabi s transportation division including all its different segments o To achieve coordination in planning and developing transport policies o For economic monitoring and control over aviation, ports and infrastructure, in addition to land, sea and public transportation o For the advancement of all those sectors in cooperation with the specialized authorities within and outside the state

8 2.2 Vision, Mission & Values Vision To deliver an effective transport system that contributes to the economic growth, quality of life and environmental sustainability of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. Mission To regulate, plan and develop an efficient and well-integrated transport system that serves the public interest by enhancing mobility and delivering safe, secure and environmentally responsible aviation, maritime, public transport and highways sectors. 9 2.3 Objectives o To create and deliver a world-class transport system that supports Abu Dhabi's broader social and economic ambitions, and meets the Emirate's future needs. o To develop a clear and appropriate allocation of responsibilities between the various public and private entities in Abu Dhabi that are involved in the delivery, supervision and management of transport services. o To deliver cross-portfolio visibility and effective information sharing between the public and private sectors to ensure that transport decisions can support and influence real estate and industrial development in other areas. o To create an appropriate p structure for the DoT to efficiently and effectively deliver the Emirate's transport vision. 12 3.1 GeoTRANS Key Objectives Build the Foundation: Transportation Data model, Infrastructure, & GIS database for the GIS System within DOT Prepare the geospatial data Standards (CAD & GIS) within the DoT for Planning, Design, Construction, O & M processes Build and prepare the GIS Infrastructure (HW & SW) to provide and consume GIS Services and data to Abu Dhabi Gov. Organizations via AD-SDI

13 3.1 GeoTRANS Key Objectives ( Cont d) Build an Intranet Portal (GeoTRANS) providing geospatial information & services to DOT at an Enterprise Level Identify the EGIS roadmap for the DOT Build the platform to create and integrate GIS applications with other DOT business systems like NOC, TIS, Road Works & Permits, etc

14 3.2 Major Achievements - Launch GeoTRANS Intranet Portal was launched successfully on 21st July 2010 GeoTRANS to serve the different DOT Sectors GeoTRANS Provides: Detailed Mapping Map Navigation Reporting on Spatial and related information Analysis Tools Query capabilities on the Spatial database Printing
