JOINT PROGRAMMING INITIATIVE ON CULTURAL HERITAGE WORKSHOP: FUNDED RESEARCH PROJECTS PARADE CULTURAL HERITAGE THROUGH TIME 2017 BGC Geomatics, June 2017, Gdańsk University of Technology, Poland
CULTURAL HERITAGE THROUGH TIME Cultural Heritage Through Time" (CHT2) is to fully integrate the fourth dimension (4D) into Cultural Heritage studies. Kraków the Fortress City (Poland) is one of four case studies of the CHT2, which are used for the time varying reconstruction, analysis, visualization, and preservation. The goal of the project is to produce time-varying 3D products, from landscape to architectural scales, to analyse lost scenarios or visualize changes which are caused by human activities or nature. The results of the case studies will be the basis for web publication.
CASE STUDIES, Case 1 City center of Milan (Italy) Reconstruction of the ancient Roman circus is a complex mixture of Roman, Medieval, Spanish, Habsburg and late modern structures. Case 3 Medieval walls of Avila (Spain) UNESCO site dating back to the 11th century was built to protect the Spanish territories from the Moors and it has 82 semi-circular towers and 9 gates. Case 2 Hadrian Wall and its landscape (UK) UNESCO site dating back to around AD 120, which spanned ca 120 km Case 4 Fortress City of Krakow (Poland) UNESCO site built in 19th century, during the Age of Partitions, by the Austro- Hungarian Empire which decided to transform Krakow into a fortress city

Fort 48 Batowice Fort Batowice 3D model on the basis of images obtained using the UAV method
Fort 47a Węgrzce Fort Węgrzce 3D model on the basis of images obtained using the UAV method
CONCLUSION The 4D database was produced thanks to collected multi-temporal data and experts' knowledge. The data set can be used both for forecasting, and analysing changes in the facilities, which have already occurred, and which have been caused by human activity or nature. The 3D models that had been obtained are an accurate reconstruction of the given object's condition as shown in included photos, plans. The results make it possible to present the current condition of the facility and provides a very good documentation.
WHAT S NEXT? Integrated web maps and 4D models are planned to be available in web browsers, mobile devices, and desktop map viewers. Preliminary studies indicate that the problem will arise when simplifying the geometry of 3D models and texturing them.
