3 Legal Framework: Barcelona Convention & ICZM Protocol Enter into force on 24th March ICZM: Dynamic process for the sustainable management and use of coastal zones, taking into account at the same time the fragility of coastal ecosystems and landscapes, the diversity of activities and uses, their interactions, the maritime orientation of certain activities and uses and their impact on both the marine and land parts. Key axes: Inter administrative Coordination Social Participation

4 Coastal Areas Management Program PAP/RAC UNEP MAP Since the 80s, pilots projects to implement the ICZM. Specifically designed for each country but with the following characteristics: Participative program; Vertical and horizontal coordination; Stakeholders involvement; Integration of Maritime and Terrestrial Uses; Training and capacity building; Awareness raising.

5 CAMP Levante de Almeria Overall aim: To serve as an demonstrative experience to be extrapolated at international, national, regional and local scale, to ensure the application of the ICZM Protocol and thus, to guarantee that its principles are upheld. Two key ideas: Common effort and special commitment from the Spanish Ministry of Environment, and Rural and Marine Affairs, and the Environment Council of the Regional Government of Andalusia. Other administrative levels are also involved in the project Area: Provincial Government; Association of Local Government and Local Governments For the first time, a CAMP Project has been conceived taking into account the implementation of the ICZM Protocol

Terrestrial: 148,122 ha. 8 Municipalities: Pulpí, Cuevas del Almanzora, Vera, Garrucha, Mojácar, Carboneras, Níjar and Almeria. 11 Consisting of the representatives of the socioeconomic agents most closely connected with the CAMP Area. This body will be responsible for promoting and channelling initiatives and concerns expressed by the local population and, therefore, from the Coastal Forum. 13 LEVANTE DE ALMERIA INFORMATION SYSTEM Overall objective: To facilitate the public information and participation processes according to Article 14 of the Protocol on Integrated Coastal Zone Management in the Mediterranean. Specific objective: To facilitate access to the relevant information regarding the integrated management of the CAMP Area. Activities: Design, publish and update the CAMP Levante de Almeria web portal; Publication and stimulation of working forums for the experts involved, as well as for the Coastal Commission, the Coastal Council and the Coastal Forum; Publication of the database for the Levante de Almeria Information System, Publication of a GIS viewer the geographical information gathered and generated in the CAMP Levante de Almeria for its inclusion in the Andalusian Environmental Information Network (REDIAM).

15 The CAMP project will contribute overall to sustainable development in the area and thus to the application of the OBJECTIVES and PRINCIPLES included in Articles 5 and 6 of the ICZM Protocol at a national level, through a demonstrable experience that can be extrapolated to an international, Mediterranean, national, regional and local level.
