5 11/3 Warm-up: Is the radiometer from Inquiry 7.1 an open or closed system? Standard- 6-8 SYSD In an open system, matter flows into and out of the system. In a closed system, energy may flow into or out of the system, but matter stays within the system. I can: Identify variables and correctly display lab results. 6 Inquiry 7.1: Investigating the effect of radiant energy Manipulated Variable (MV): distance of clamp lamp to radiometer Responding Variable (RV): time radiometer spins Controlled Variables (CV): all materials (stopwatch, bookends, same color of light, radiometer, rulers, wattage of bulb, outside light, environment), time lamp stays on, same testers, same angle of light. Question: What is the effect of the distance the lamp is from the radiometer on time the radiometer spins? Hypothesis: If I lengthen/shorten the distance from the lamp to the radiometer, then the radiometer will spin less/more because it is receiving more/less energy being farther away/closer. I know this because

Time how long the radiometer spins after light is off. 5. Record data on data table. 6. Calculate average. 7. Repeat steps 3-6 for trials 2 and 3 for cm. 8. Repeat steps 3-7 for, cm.
