DARK-SKY PARKS AND LIGHT POLLUTION IN TV SHOWS AND MASS-MEDIA MEDIA Valentin Grigore President of the Romanian Society for Meteors and Astronomy Producer of the TV show Us and the Sky, Columna TV
AS YOU SEENON TV! As you seen on TV! Couldwe have this expression when talking about light pollution and dark sky? Is light pollution/dark-sky a TV/press subject(s)? But dark-sky parks? Mass media, especiallytv, is an importantfactor for our promotion. Because light pollution, dark-sky, dark-sky parks are terms not exclusively for specialists. They must be terms of the public domain! WE NEED MASS MEDIA FOR OUR DARK-SKY ACTIVITY! DARK-SKY MUST BE A MASS MEDIA SUBJECT!
THE ROLE OF MASS-MEDIA: TO INFORM Light pollution is in fact a pollution and it affects: Human health important medical conditions Birds, insects, sea life and all forms of life based on the day-night alternance images of impact: death birds Astronomy and research. The importance of the dark-sky World climate Our budget LIGHT POLLUTION AFFECT THE LIFE AND THE QUALITY OF THE LIFE. NO MANY FINANCIAL RESOURCES ARE NECESSARY TO COMBAT THE LIGHT POLLUTION!
THE ROLE OF MASS-MEDIA: TO EDUCATE Light pollution can be easily reduced Not necessary to turn off all lights, just to make the things better Bad lights and good lights Start with your self! The role and the importance of the DARK SKY and DARK-SKY PARKS A REDUCED LIGHT POLLUTION MEANS MORE MONEY FOR OTHER GOOD THINGS
NEWSPAPERS OR SPECIALIZED PUBLICATIONS? Both types of publications are important, but Very few apparitionsin regular publications (newspapers) Very useful articles in publications for students and youth ARTICLES CAN BE OF INTEREST IF THEY ARE WRITTEN IN AN ATTRACTIVE STYLE
TV SHOWS, THE BIGGEST IMPACT Speak about the importance of the dark-sky and dark-sky places Dark-sky events
TV SHOWS, THE BIGGEST IMPACT Using simple things to explain the light pollution effects
TV SHOWS, THE BIGGEST IMPACT Good multimedia resources, easy to understand even for children
TV SHOWS, THE BIGGEST IMPACT We need special resources (multimedia) for dark-sky parks Video
TV SHOWS, THE BIGGEST IMPACT We need TV promotion in every European country Dark-sky Parks and dark-sky institutions must give more importance for the relations with mass-media. They must have specialized persons for that. It is necessary a permanent apparition in mass-media. Must have partnerships with media institutions, including TV. Very important! WE MUST CREATE RESOURCES FOR JOURNALISTS (light pollution law, dark-sky dictionary etc.) WE MUST INVITE JOURNALISTS AT ALL IMPORTANT DARK-SKY EVENTS(like this here in Montsec)
TV SHOWS, THE BIGGEST IMPACT I am interested to find if in your countries (areas) there are astronomy TV shows (on a regular or sporadic base) I am interested to find how many TV shows on Light Pollution Education for Public are in your countries A TV Dark-sky Campaign 2012: video spots and TV shows Are you interested in this field? Please, contact me: darkskyromania@gmail.com noisicerul@gmail.com
