SECTION-A Name two unicellular organisms. While playing football the goalkeeper didn t get sufficient time to stop a fast ball shot towards him. Why did he hurt his hand while doing so? Mention the physical quantity shown by the slope of a speed time graph. 4 How is heating of sugar and heating of ammonium chloride different from each other? Explain your answer. 5 How is striated squamous epithelial tissue different from squamous epithelial tissue? 6 G SI State Universal law of Gravitation. Using the formula for G, find its SI unit. Page of 4

7 (iii) (iv) How can we say that sugar is a pure substance whereas milk is not? Which of the following materials fall in the category of a pure substance? Ice Iron (iii) Wood (iv) Brick 8 Define matter and write its three states. Explain how these states of matter arise due to variation in the characteristics of the particles. 9 Write any two differences between a chemical change and a physical change. State one instance in which water undergoes a physical change and one in which it undergoes a chemical change. 0 What is meant by osmosis? What will happen to the living cell if it is kept in a hypertonic solution? Give an example of endo osmosis. Page of 4

Draw a neat and labelled diagram of collenchyma tissue. Do the cells of this tissue have intercellular spaces? Why or why not? kg 0 g 0.00 s 00 m/s A gun of mass kg fires a bullet of mass 0 g. The bullet takes 0.00 s to move through the barrel of the gun and acquires a velocity of 00 m/s. Calculate : The velocity with which the gun recoils The force exerted on gunman due to recoil of the gun. Write three points of difference in mass and weight of an object. 4 Differentiate between average speed and average velocity. Write the mathematical formula for each. Illustrate the difference between these two quantities with the help of an example 5 Page 4 of 4

(iii) g G Give reasons : A piece of paper takes much longer to fall than a stone through the same distance, when both are dropped simultaneously from roof. The mass is constant everywhere whereas the weight keeps changing. (iii) The value of g keeps changing as we move away from the earth whereas value of G remains constant all over the universe. 6 A B A cow and a bird both travelled from point A to point B. The cow travelled in a straight line but the bird travelled along the curved path as shown below : What is the distance travelled by the cow? What is the distance travelled by the bird? Page 5 of 4

Which one of them has more displacement? 7 (iii) Rameshwar took the responsibility of his fields when his father got old. His father advised him to use farmyard manure over fertilizers but he wanted to use chemical fertilizers. His father told him about the adverse effects of chemical fertilizers to the nearby water bodies. Rameshwar s father encouraged him and his friends also to use organic manure and careful and judicious use of chemical fertilizers. Why the chemical fertilizers must be used carefully and judiciously? Manures are natural fertilizers. How can they be prepared in the field? (iii) Why did Rameshwar's father advise him? 8 Green revolution indicates that our natural resources are getting used more intensively. What can be the harmful effects of this? List any three. 9 5 List six physical properties of metals. Name two metals. Name a metal which is liquid at room temperature? Page 6 of 4

0 5 Define evaporation and explain the role of speed of wind at the rate of evaporation. Why do we feel cool when we sit under fan during summer? 5 Define tissue. What is the importance of tissues in multicelluler organisims? Are plants and animals made of same types of tissues? If no, then. Write three points of difference. Explain the following phenomena on the basis of Newton s Laws of Motion : Falling of buildings during an earthquake. Shattering of car windows due to a bomb blast. (iii) Cell phone breaks into pieces on falling from a table. Page 7 of 4

V, u, a t 5 (iii) For a moving object, derive graphically relation between final velocity v, initial velocity u, acceleration a and time t. Draw the distance-time graph for the following situations : (iii) When a body is stationary When a body is moving with a uniform speed. When a body is moving with non-uniform speed. 4 5 State the purpose for which cattle husbandry is done. Name the method which is commonly used for improving cattle breeds and why? Name one exotic and one indigenous breed of cow with long lactation period. / SECTION - B 5 Metanil yellow is adulterant of food material : Turmeric powder Pulses Page 8 of 4

Spices Seeds 6 Starch is a complex form of : proteins carbohydrates fats vitamin 7 I II III IV In an experiment, carbon disulphide was added to a test tube containing a mixture of iron filings and sulphur powder as shown in the given diagrams. Page 9 of 4

The correct observation is represented in diagram : I II III IV 8 From a mixture of iron filings and sulphur powder we can separate iron filings by : heating it strongly dissolving in water rolling a magnet over the mixture Any of these methods can be used 9 Page 0 of 4

Komal heated some crystals of copper sulphate in a boiling tube and noted the water droplets along the walls of the tube and the colour of crystals changed from blue to white. This is because : Hydrated copper sulphate is white Anhydrous copper sulphate is white Copper sulphate displaced Cu + ions Copper sulphate displaces SO 4 ions 0 While preparing temporary slide, the correct method of placing the coverslip on the specimen is : dropping the cover slip gently with hand sliding the coverslip gently from the side placing the coverslip gently using forceps placing the coverslip gently using a needle (iii) (iv) On viewing under a microscope, the material in the permanent slide shows alternating light and dark bands with multinucleate and unbranched cells. It is :- nerve cell parenchyma (iii) striated muscle (iv) sclerenchyma Page of 4

A mixture contains iodine, ammonium chloride and sand. Only iodine and ammonium chloride sublimate. Only iodine dissolves in carbon tetra chloride. How will you separate the three components? Sequence of steps will be : Sublimation, addition of CCl4. Addition of CCl4, filtration, sublimation. Sublimation, addition of H O, filtration. evaporation, distillation, crystallization. 00 gwt 00g wt 90g wt. 0-00gwt ;.0gwt 0-00gwt ;.0gwt 0-50gwt ;.0gwt 0-500gwt ; 5.0gwt, A student performed the experiment To establish relationship between weight of a rectangular wooden block lying on a horizontal surface and minimum force required to just move it using a spring balance. If the weight of the given wooden block is nearly 00g wt Page of 4

and three known weights of 00g wt each are to be successively placed on the wooden block to take three more readings, then which one of the following spring balances, available in the laboratory would you select for the best results in the experiment? It is known that a force of 90g wt is required to just move the block on the surface. Range 0-00g wt ; Least count.0g wt Range 0-00g wt ; Least count.0g wt Range 0-50g wt ; Least count.0g wt Range 0-500g wt ; Least count 5.0g wt 4 How do we test the stability of a solution? List two solutions which exhibit this property. 5 Nisha determined the boiling point of water and thought of doing another experiment. She took aqueous solution of salt and repeated the experiment. Would there be any change in boiling point? Why? 6 50 g 80 g Raman while doing an experiment to find out the percentage of water absorbed by raisins measured the mass of dry raisins as 50 g. He soaked the raisins in water for four hours and again measured the mass as 80 g. Calculate the percentage of water absorbed by the raisins. He then placed swollen raisins in concentrated salt solution for four hours. What will he observe? Page of 4
