SECTION-A What do you understand by valence electrons? Explain. What do you mean by chemical formulae? Mention the modification made by Carl Woese in Robert Whittaker s classification of living organisms? 4 0. Define relative density. What is the density of silver given that its relative density is 0.? 5 s 40 m/s An echo of a sound is heard after seconds. Find the distance of the reflecting surface from the source if the speed of sound in air is 40 m/s. 6 7 Z If an atom has one electron and one proton, state the charge on the atom. Justify your answer If Z, what would be the valency of the element? Also name the element. Name the elements present in the following compounds : Water Lead nitrate Copper chloride 8 X 0 90 mg X 0 atoms of an element X are found to have a mass of 90 mg. Calculate the molar mass of the element X. 9 / In multicellular organisms, the organs/tissues perform various specialised activities going on in body. The list of some specific organs is given below. You have to write specialised activities of the organs. Page of 0
0 Specific Organs Specialised Activity. Heart Lungs Kidneys Stomach Small intestine Brain Name two plants each of the following types : Vascular cryptogams Naked seeded plants Flowering plants. An active immune system forms many cells to the affected tissue to kill off the disease causing microbes. Identify the process and mention its local and general effects. Explain why a ship made of steel floats on water but a steel needle sinks? Pins and nails are made to have pointed ends. Why? 400 ms.5 km 4 If the velocity of a wave in a medium is 400 m/sec and its wavelength is.5 km. Calculate its frequency. Is it in audible range for us? State reasons. State Archimedes principle. Why is it easier to swim in sea water than in river water? 5 SI 4 50 N 6 Define work. State SI unit of work. Calculate the work done in pushing a cart through a distance of 4 m against the force of friction equal to 50 N. Also state the type of work done. Page of 0
Rashmi was playing on a swing in a park. To increase her speed, when her swing was at its lowest position during its oscillations she pushed the ground hard with her feet. She enjoyed it but could not understand the mechanism. When she asked her elder brother Pankaj, he explained her the reason. What type of energy was possessed by Rashmi while swinging? On what factors does it depend? Why did the swing's speed increase on pushing the ground harder with feet? Mention the values shown by Pankaj and Rashmi. 7 M 4 An atom of an element has 4 electrons in the outermost M shell. What will be the atomic number of this element? Name this element. Find the valency of this element. Draw a schematic diagram of its atom showing the distribution of electrons in its shells. 8 (iv) Write the common names of the following : Antedon Holothuria Echinus (iv) Asterias Name the phylum to which they belong. Name the system they use for moving around. Draw the diagram of Asterias. 9 (iv)?? Name any one disease caused by each of the following - Protozoa Virus Bacteria (iv) Fungi How is malaria disease transmitted? What are the common preventive measures taken against communicable diseases? 0 0 m Page 4 of 0
0 m 44 5 The sound of an explosion on the surface of a lake is heard by a man 0 m away and a diver 0 m below the point of explosion. Answer the following : Explain who will hear the sound of explosion first? What is the audible range of human ear? If sound takes sec. to reach the man, how much time will it take to reach the diver? (speed of sound in air = 44 m/s and water 5 m/s) Write any two applications of ultrasonic waves. SI x y Define potential energy. Give its SI unit. Write an expression for gravitational potential energy of an object with mass x placed at height y. Find the ratio of potential energy of two objects kept at same height but mass of one object is double of the other. Find the ratio of potential energy of two objects of same mass but one is kept at double the height of the other. /SECTION B (OTBA) (* Please ensure that open text of the given theme is supplied with this question paper.) पर य वरण एव स वयस र Theme: Health & Environment Explain with example how the airborne chemicals pose risk to health? 5 Of human excreta, faeces are the most dangerous to health. Comment. Page 5 of 0
4 Specify five ways by which we can reduce our exposure to chemicals. 5 / SECTION - C 5 न र म क सत र यनपत कर क For effective reflection of sound in the experiment to verify the laws of reflection of sound the reflector metal plates should be placed with respect to the plane containing both pipes - either horizontally or inclined horizontally vertically either vertically or inclined 6 Choose the correct statement : For a given value of force, the pressure varies inversely with density of the substance on which it is placed. For a given value of force, the pressure varies inversely with area of contact. For a given value of force, the pressure varies directly with density of the substance on which it is placed. For a given value of force, the pressure varies directly with area of contact. 7 To determine the velocity of a pulse propagating along the length of a string we use a long Page 6 of 0
8 thick cotton string because : pulse may move through it easily. time taken by pulse to move from one end of string to other can be determined accurately. cotton string is easily available and cheap. in a thin string pulse cannot be formed. The following figure shows slide of spirogyra. The correct labelling of the parts are : Pyrenoid, nucleus, cytoplasm, vacuole Cytoplasmic strand, vacuole, nucleus, pyrenoid Page 7 of 0
9 Cytoplasm, nucleus, vacuole, chloroplast. Nucleus, cell wall, cytoplasm, pyrenoid. 0 (iv) (iv) A student noted down the following precautions for the experiment "To verify the law of conservation of mass in a chemical reaction" weighing should be done carefully. flask should be corked tightly. solutions should not get mixed before the reaction. (iv) mixing of two solutions must be done quickly The precaution which needs to be corrected is : (iv) Ca (s) +Cl (g) CaCl (s) 0g 5.5g 70.0g 5.5g 55.5g 7.5g Given below is a chemical equation to show the formation of calcium chloride by burning calcium in chlorine gas:- Ca (s) +Cl (g) CaCl (s) Calculate the mass in g of calcium chloride formed when 0g of calcium combines with 5.5g of chlorine gas. 70.0g 5.5g 55.5g 7.5g A, B, C D Four students A, B, C and D observed the flowers and seeds of maize plant. They have reported their observations as follows. Identify the correct option : Page 8 of 0

Plants with parallel venation have fibrous root system and penta-merous flowers. Plants with reticulate venation have fibrous root system and tetra-merous flowers. Plants with reticulate venation have tap root system and pentamerous flowers. Observe the diagram given above and identify the stage of life cycle of mosquito : pupa larva egg adult Write two important precautions to be taken in an experiment to determine the density of a solid by using a spring balance and a measuring cylinder. Rohan observed that the mass of solid body is more in air as compared to the mass of solid body in water. Explain the observation. Page 9 of 0
