3 The present electromagnetic survey has indicated the presence of two well defined conducting axis intersections and two indications of lesser strength. The magnetometer survey has revealed some areas of increased magnetic intensitf which may be due to near surface lenses of highly magnetic material such as magnetite or pyrrhotite. One of the lesser strength conductors shows direct magnet i c c orr e 1 at ion. It is recommended that surface examinations, perhaps with the aid of trenching, be made in the anomalous areas. If these investigations reveal that the present indications rnay have some economic potential, further geophysical work or diamond drilling may be directed on the basis of the present results.

4 SEIGEL ASSOGiATES ~~~~~~~ GEOPHYSICAL CONSULTANTS & CONTRACTORS A DIVISION OF SCINTREX LIMITED REPORT ON MAGNETIC &ID ELECTROMAGNETIC SURVEYS ON SOME LUN-AR CLAIMS NADAHTNI MOUNTAIN AREA NORTHERN BRITISK COLUMBIA ON BEHALF OF MAX FUERSTNER AND IRWIN KREFT I N TROD UC T I ON During the period from March 22 to March 28, 1969, horizontal loop electromagnetic and magnetometer surveys were executed over a portion of the LUNAR claim group on behalf of Nr. Max Fuerstner and Mr. Irwin Kreft. The overall programme was supervised by Jon G. Baird, B.Sc., P.Eng. Field direction was provided by Mr. R. Lebrun who was aided by Messrs. Fuerstner and Kreft. The property is located in northwestern British Columbia about one mile west of the Haynes Road at a point seventy miles north of Haynes, Alaska. Access is provided by vehicle on the Haynes Road thence by ski-doo to the property. With the exception of a few sharp gullies the topography of the property may be described as moderate. The elevation is approximately 3,900' and the ground is treeless. On the LUNAR claim group a baseline was cut oriented northsouth and survey lines were established perpendicular thereto as shown on Plates 3 and 4. In all, approximately 5.0 line miles 'of combined electromagnetic and magnetometer survey were executed. In addition, a test profile approximately 1 m ile in length was run in a north-south w. 5 - p 2 direction a few hundred feet west of and parallel to the main highway at a point approximately 1 mile north of the LUNAR Group. A Sharpe MF-1 fluxgate magnetometer was used for the magnetometer survey and a Sharpe SE-600 horizontal loop unit, measuring complex components at an operating frequency of 1600 cps, was employed for the electromagnetic survey. The coil separation was 200'. The nominal station interval for both surveys was 100' although additional readings were taken in areas of interest. The registered holder of the LUNAR claim group is Mr. Irwin Kreft. GEOLOGY The geology of the general area is described in B. C. Department of Mines Bulletin 25 entitled IISquaw Creek - Rainy Hollow Area" by K. dep. Watson, Accompanying the bulletin is a geological map which has been used as a basis for the geology of Plate 2. The rocks which are believed to underlie the immediate survey area may include marble, argillite, quartzite, gneiss and schist. A few miles south of the LUNAR claims, in a similar geologic zones are found to contain copper-si lver- lead-zinc mineralization. The goal of the present surveys was to attempt to locate similar zones on the LUNAR 'claims. DISCUSSION OF RESULTS The results of the electromagnetic survey are shown on Plate 2, in the form of in-phase and out-of-phase profiles with a vertical scale of 1" = 20% and a plan scale of 1" = 200'.

6 The profiles for the test line and the lines in the north part of the Luh'AR grid are seen to be quite flat and featureless. Some electromagnetic response in the form of random increases in the in-phase component is seen in places on Lines 12 N through 22 N. These dis- tortions are likely due to inaccuracies in coil separation or orientation such as caused by topographic obstacles. Since the transmitted field of horizontal loop systems is dipolar, a 1% error in coil separation distance causes a 3% distortion of the in-phase component. When topographic obstacles occur it is difficult to maintain a 200' coil separation and in-phase increases result. There are two places where the electromagnetic responses are typical of buried conductors. One such response at 6460W on L 12 N, is interpreted to be due to a steeply dipping conductor striking approxi- w mately north-south and coming to within approximately 30' of the ground surface. No evidence of this conductor is seen 200' to the north on L 14 N. Due to topographic limitations it was not possible to run a flanking profile to the south. The second well defined indication of an electromagnetic conductor occurs at 13+80% on L 14 N. This response, of lesser amplitude than the former, appears to be due to a conductor dipping at about 45" to the east, which may come to within 30' of the ground surface. Two additional low amplitude distortions at 22W on L 18 N and 12w on L 12 N may reveal conductive bodies. The first of these has direct magnetic correlation while che second may be the on-strike reflection of the conduccor axis at 13i-80W on L 14 N.

7 Plate 4,on the scale of 1" = 2001, shows the results of the magnetometer survey. In the southern part of the grid where there is sufficient data, the results have been contoured. In other places where single lines have been traversed the data has been shown in profile form. Sharp local increases in magnetic intensity of a few hundred gammas are seen in several places. These distortions appear to be due to near surface lenses of magnetite or pyrrhotite, however the possibility that magnetic boulders in the overburden may cause some of the one station anomalies must be considered. Sone larger areas of increased magnetic intensities bounded by the 1000 gamma contour may indicate different rock types containing a distribution of magnetite or pyrrhotite. CONCLUSIONS AND RECGbPBNDATIONS The present surveys have located geophysical anonlalies which warrant further investigation. The areas of the indicated electro- magnetic conductors and magnetic bodies should be subjected t o thorough surface examinations. If the geochemical method is valid for the present area, some geochemical sampling should be carried out. If these investigations reveal that the present indication may have some economic potential, then further geophysical work, trenching or diamond drilling may be proposed on the basis of the present geophysical data.
