2 THREE NEW SPECIES OF ТН GENUS RAPHIGNATHUS IN EGYPT (PROSTIGMATA : RAPHIGNATHIDAE) ВУ М. А. ZAHER * and. А. GOMAA *. ABSTRACT Five species of the genus Raphignathus are recorded in Egypt. Of the these, three species Raphignathus bakeri, R. evansi, and R. ehari are new, while R. gracilis (Rack), and R. collegiat1~s А., В., & С. аге firstly recorded. The ne~l species are described and а key to females of аll collected species is given. RESUME Cinq especes du genre Raphignathus sont signajees d'egypte. Trois d'entre elles sont попvеllеs : R. bakeri, R. evansi et R. ehari ; R. gracilis (Rack) et R. collegiat~ts Atyeo et ан. sont citees рош la premiere fois. Les nouvelles especes sont decrites et une cle des femelles est donnee. INTRODUCTION Members of the family Raphignathidae аге of ргеdасеопs feeding habit and this is generally based оп observations in nature. Berlese's illustration (1894) of the type species Syncaligus petrobius (Canestrini, 1889) showed contiguous сохае оп each side of body, one, rod-like seta оп each tarsus, cervical peritremes, and fused chelicerae. OUDEMANS (1923) ; and GRANDJEAN (1944) stated that the genus Syncaligus (Koch) 1938, seemed to Ье а synonym of Raphignathus. BAKER and WHARTON (1952) kept the family Raphignathidae in а broad sense, including this family together with the Stigmaeidae and Caligonellidae, оп the bases of having peritremes in cheliceral bases, large palpal claws, and terminal anus. АТУО et аг, (1961) recognized the family Raphignathidae Ьу cervical peritremes and contiguous сохае. SUMMERS (1966) described this family Ьу having chelicerae form а stylophore, paired peritremes running laterally from base of stylophore to make short loops in соllаг тетbrane between gnathosoma and podosoma, сохае II and III contiguous; dorsal plates weakly developed, and tarsal segment shorter than palptibia. Не added that genus Raphignathus included about 20 species. In (1968) SMILY and MOSER created а new genus of Raphignathidae, the Neoraphignathus. * Agricultural Zoology Dept. 3 During this work, survey showed that the genus Raphignathиs is represented Ьу five species in Egypt. Of these, three species are considered new to science. This paper deals with the description of these new species together with а key to ан collected species. Dorsal setae nomenclature, presented here, is а combination of that used Ьу GRANDJEAN (1944) and АТУО (1963). The setae are named as follows : Оп propodosoma, internal verticals (ае), external verticals (Ье), internal scapular (се) and external scapular (de) ; оп hysterosoma, internal humerals (а), external humerals (he) ; dorsocentrals (Ь), (с), (d), and (е) ; laterals (lr), and (le) оп the sacral and clunal portions, respectively. Stylophore conical and movable digits needle-like ; peritremata arising from posteromedian of stylophore and extending caudolaterally in cervical membrane at anterolateral margins of podosoma. 4 Raphignathus evansi sp. п. (Fig. 1 А & В) FEMALE : Body ovoid, stylophore conical, longitudinally striated; movable digits long, needle-like. Peritremata originate at posterior of stylophore and each peritreme directed саиdolateral, terminating пеаг anterolateral margin of propodosoma. Palpus five-segmented, with distal segment of 4 solenidia distally and 3 setae laterally ; tibia with small claw and three attenuated tactile setae. с) ) о в FJG. 1 ; Raphignathus evansi sp. п. Dorsal setae simple, relatively short, 11 pair ; two paris оп the anteromedian plate (ае, а), (Ье) absent, three pairs оп the anterolateral plate (се, de, he) ; two pairs of dorsal setae оп hysterosoma in the striated агеа (Ь, с) between the propodosomal plates and the opisthosomal plate; the dorsocentrals (с) оп small platelets; 4 pairs of dorsal setae d, lг, е, lе оп the opisthosomal plate. Ventrum with five pairs of veyltral setae, the first pair between сохае 1, the second located оп small punctated platelet adjacent to сохае 111, the third between сохае IV and less spaced than the anterior ones, and two pairs оп opisthosoma, the posterior pair оп small platelets ; the genitalia ventrally, with three subequal simple pairs of genital setae.

5 Legs relatively long ; leg 1 and IV subequal and longer than 11 and 111 ; сохае I-IV in one groupe (contiguous) ; genu 1 and tibia IV each with small cylindrical sensillum ; tarsi 1, 11, and 111 each with claviform sensillum, but that of tarsus 111 smaller. Measurements : Length of idiosoma (from bases of verticals to end of anal covers) = fj.; gnathosoma (from bases of verticals to top of pedipalps) = 175 fj.; greatest width = 240 fj.. Legs : I-IV = fj., fj., 290 fj., and fj.; anteromedian plate setae (from anterior to posterior) : ае = 37.5 fj. ; and а = 22.5 fj. ; anterolateral plate setae : се = 35 fj., de = 35 fj., and he = 27.5 fj. ; hysterosomal setae : Ь = 22.5 fj., с = 22.5 fj. ; opisthosomal plate setae : d = 22.5 fj., lr = 25 fj., е = 25 fj., and le = 27.5 fj.. Dorsuт : Propodosoma with one anteromedian p1ate and two antero1atera1 p1ates; the anteromedian p1ate bears three pairs of setae (ае, Ье, and е), and antero1atera1 p1ates each bears three dorsa1 setae (се, de, and 11e). Opisthosoma wlth an opisthosoma1 p1ate bearing 4 pairs of setae de, 1r, е, and 1е ; two pairs of setae (Ь and с) оп hysterosoma between anteromedian p1ate and opisthosoma1 p1ate, and each seta 10cated оп small p1ate1et. АН dorsa1 p1ates separated with striated integument ; dorsa1 setae 12 pairs re1ative1y short and simp1e. Ventrum with 5 pairs of simp1e setae ; three subequa1 pairs оп podosoma, and two unequa1 pairs оп opisthosoma ; the anterior pair 10nger than the posterior one ; ventra1 surface very faint1y striated. Genita1ia ventrally, and with three pairs of genita1 simp1e setae; anus termina1, and ana1 covers with one pair of simp1e setae. Raphignathus ehari sp. n. (Fig. 3 А & В) FEMALE : Body ovoid, stylophore 1ong, conical, longitudinally striated, apically, c1eft movable digits 1ong, and needle1ike. Peritremata originate at base of sty1ophore and each peritreme directed caudo1aterally, then terminates near antero1atera1 margin of propodosoma. Ventra1 hypostome not striated, with 4 pairs of simple setae. Pa1pus five-segmented; tarsus with crown of 4 blunt1y rounded sensory seta, one latera1 sепзс>гу s~ta, and three attenuate tacti1e setae ; tibia with one smal claw and three attenuate tactile setae. Dorsuт : Propodosoma with one anteromedia1 and two anterolateral plates separated Ьу fine1y striated areas; one large p1ate оп opisthosoma.
