2 TWO NEW SPECIES OF THE F AMIL Y CUNAXIDAE (ACARI : PROSTIGMATA) FROM POLAND BY Stefania MICHOCKA 1 SUMMARY : During investigations of the family Cunaxidae (Acari : Prostigmata) in Poland I have found two species new for science. 1. Cunaxoides kielczewskii n. sp. 2 The body elongateà, the broadest part is at the posterior pair of sensillae. The body is 420 p.m long and 160 p.m wide (Fig. la). Gnathosoma. The palpi are 3-segmented, short, exceeding the hypostoma ; their length is 95 p.m. The I segment is 18 p.m, II-58 p.m, III- 19 p.m. On the segment II there are 5 setae and on the segment III - 4 setae. Chelicera have a bottle-like shape and are without setae. At the base they are 130 p.m long and 18 p.m wide. Gnathosoma is 130 p.m long and 80 p.m wide. On its ventral side there iue 4 pairs of setae : a pair in the middle of the base length, one pair at the palpal base and 2 pairs on the front hypostoma. The shield at the base of gnathosoma has the shape of polygons arranged in one row (Fig. lc). Dorsum. The body does not show any distinct division into propodosoma and hysterosoma. The cuticle has delicate callosities in the form of wavy short lines. The arrangement of those lines suggests the presence of a shield (similarly as in the genus Neocunaxoides Smiley, 1975), which, however, is only slightly indicated (Fig. la). The anterior sensillae are 100 p.m long. On their whole )ength there are spikes. The length of the posterior sensillae is 130 p.m and they have the same shape. Between them there are lateral and central propodosomal setae. On the hysterosoma there are six pairs of setae, the length of the first four pairs oscillates between 10 and 16 p.m, and the length of the final pairs is about 30 p.m. Venter. The chitinous callosities have the character of short continuous lines which are arranged as shawn in Fig. lb. In the CèntnH part of the ventral side of the body there are 3 pairs of setae. The genital opening below the coxae of the IV pair of legs. The genital plates have 4 setae each. Around the plates there are 3 pairs of paragenital setae. Inside the body of one female I found a big ovum (Fig. lb). Legs. The length of legs is the following I pair-240 p.m, II and III pair-210 p.m and IV- 260 p.m. On the dorsal side of the tarsus of the pair of legs 1 there are 13 setae (Fig. ld). Tri- 1. 3 chobothrium are on the tibia of the IV pair of legs. Systematic position. The described species is very close to Cunaxoides croceus C. L. Koch. The most important differences are presented in the table. Stations of this species in Poland are indicated in 'Fig. 3. On the basis of the hitherto data no doser information can be given regarding the ecological requirements of this species. Holotype. Dactyïoscirus rafaïskii. n. sp. 1 The body is rhomboid shaped, about 700 ~tm long and 230 ~tm wide (Fig. 2A). Gnathosoma. Palpi 5-segmented, about 300 ~tm long, I segment-lü ~tm, II-54 ~tm, III- 50 ~tm. IV-60 ~tm. and V-144 f-tm. On the segment II there is one small thick seta located paracentrally on the dorsal side ; -on the segment III there is one seta of the same shape and location as the former one and a thorn bent forward and 1. The segment II and III seem as if they were grown together though there is a visible dividing line. On the segment IV there are two thorny, thick setae and one thin seta 30 p,m long. On the dividing line between the III and the IV segment. from ventral si de there is a thick horn bent in the shape of the letter " C " (the width at the base is. 8 p,m, the length-30 p,m). The palpai segment V is bent like a hook terminated with a sharp cutting edge. On this segment there are 4 setae and a thorn. Between the se~ments IV and V there is a thorn 96 p,m long, wavy bent and sharply terminated. The structure of the palpi is shawn in Fig. 2B. Chelicerae are very slender, about 200 p,m long and 15 p,m wide. Close to the chelae base there is a pair of setae. Hypostome with 3 pairs of setae on the ventral si de ; one at the base of pal pi, the second below, the third in the front, about 40 p,m below the mouth opening~ and the fourth about the mouth opening.

The body is distinctly divided into propodosoma and hysterosoma. On the propodosoma covered with a smooth cuticle there are 2 pairs of sensillae, the anterior being 180 J.tffi long and the posterior 260 J.tffi long. The lateral and the central propodosomal setae are very short, about 8 J.tffi. The cuticle on the hysterosoma with granulation. On the center of hysterosoma there is a reticular shield and on its side there are two smaller reticular shields of spindle-like shape. The setae in the anterior part of the hysterosoma are very short - about 6 J.tffi, and those on the posterior part are longer : J.tin. On the posterior part of hysterosoma the cuticle forms 3-4 folds (Fig. 2A). Venter. The cuticle is very delicate, without any conspicuous callosities. Setae are few and short. In the central coxal part of the pair of legs III and IV there is a pair of setae (8 J.tffi long), and below the coxae of the pair IV of legs there are 4 pairs of setae whose length reaches

The genital opening is located on the posterior part of the body just before the anal opening. The genital plates have 4 setae each. There are no paragenital setae. Il Legs. Legs are terminated with 2 claws. The length of the I pair of legs is 380 flm, flm, III-380 flm, IV-359 flm. The tarsus of the pair of legs I is presented in Fig. 2C, and a end of the tarsus IV in Fig. 2D. A trichobothrium is on the tibia of the IV pair of legs. Il Systematic position. The Dactyloscirus genus comprises furthermore D. Inermis (Tragârdh, 1905), D. eupa/oides (Berlese, 1917), D. (Rosenhojia) machairodus (Oudemans, 1922), from which the new species differs distinctly by many features and particularly by the structure of pal pi. Il Distribution and eco/ogical remarks. The stations of the described species are indicated on Fig. 3. I have found this species in samples of peatbogs and in pine forest.
