1 Y5/6 Long Term Plan Endeavour Class Autumn Term Spring Term Summer Term Year 1 (2017/18) TOPIC: A study of an aspect or theme of British history that extends pupils chronological knowledge beyond 1066 TOPIC: Achievements of Early civilisations TOPIC: Study of Non-European society Use this to inform T4W, A&D Etc. History Modern Britain: Changes in Britain since 1948 Study the changes that took place in Britain between 1948 and the present and the impact the changes had on the lives of people. Arrange events from the past in chronological order. Sims and diffs with life today and children s own lives. How did people live after the Second World War. LOOK FOR OPPORTUNITY FOR FAMILY MEMBER TO COME IN TO DISCUSS THEIR PAST. Ancient China The Shang Dynasty Study the achievements of the earliest civilizations- an overview of where and when the first civilisations appeared and an in depth study of a selected civilisation. Benin West Africa Study a non-european society that provides contrasts to British history. Review impact of Benin Empire and how it shifted Western European views on Sub Saharan Africa. Link to school trip to Sainsbury s Centre Art Gallery which has a selection of bronzes. Geography Map work Look at maps of Norwich over the past 70 years. Look for sim and dif between the decades. What has changed what industries have appeared/ disappeared etc. What forms of communications have changed (look for railways and Beeching change in 1960s and use images of Develop an understanding of the geography of China, including location, landscape and climate. Human and Physical Geography linked to the importance of the Yangtze, Yellow and Mekong Rivers that run through China and how they have shaped Chinese society. Compare and contrast to Norfolk Broads. Use fieldwork to observe and measure at Bawburgh water areas. Study different climates and how they impact on human and physical Geography. Link to modern day Benin and then connect with tropics and climate zones. Compare with tropical areas in South America and how they differ with the UK: Look specifically at economies and localised resources.

Earth Space and Forces Earth and Space 1st Half term D escribe the movement of the Earth and other planets relative to the sun in the solar system. Describe the movement of the moon relative to the Earth. Describe the sun, Earth and moon as approximately spherical bodies. Use the idea of the Earth s rotation to explain day and night and the apparent movement of Make Chinese food See if we can ask for Ella s mum to come in for a stand alone day where the children can explore chinese food and attempt to make some. Ukulele Children will learn musical notes and techniques whilst learning to play the ukulele. Electricity; Animals (Inc Humans) Animals (Inc Humans) Pupils should be taught to identify and name the main parts of the human circulatory system, and describe the functions of the heart, blood vessels and blood; recognise the impact of diet, exercise, drugs and lifestyle on the way their bodies function; describe the Cleared for Benin in Art Ukulele Children will learn musical notes and techniques whilst learning to play the ukulele. Work scientifically by: comparing the time of day at different places on the Earth through internet links and direct communication; creating simple models of the solar system; constructing simple shadow clocks and sundials, calibrated to show midday and the start and end of the school day; finding out why some people think that structures such as Stonehenge might have been used as astronomical clocks. Forces: 2nd Half Term Pupils should be taught to: explain that unsupported objects fall towards the Earth because of the force of gravity acting between the Earth and the falling object, identify the effects of air resistance, water resistance and friction, ways in which nutrients and water are transported within animals, including humans. Pupils should build on their learning from years 3 and 4 about the main body parts and internal organs (skeletal, muscular and digestive system) to explore and answer questions that help them to understand how the circulatory system enables the body to function. Pupils should learn how to keep their bodies healthy and how their bodies might be damaged including how some drugs and other substances can be harmful to the human body. Electricity : 2nd Half Term Pupils should be taught to: associate the brightness of a lamp or the volume of a buzzer with the number and voltage of cells used in the circuit ;compare and give reasons for variations in how components function, including the brightness of bulbs, the loudness of buzzers and the on/off position of switches; use recognised symbols when representing a simple circuit in a diagram.

(Year 5) Literary effect: Use of the passive voice (Year 6) Fronted adverbials Link to Chinese Shang Dynasty Fiction: Tale of Fear Use a traditional Chinese tale as template to build on theme. Discuss Islamic dietary laws (halal/haram) and those concerning modesty in dress in relation to wider society. Coding. Create PowerPoint presentations combining text, graphics and sound that explain village life in Viking or Saxon times. Hinduism - Religion and the Individual Identify the tilaks, which Hindus may wear marked on their foreheads and know why they are there. Consider some of the Hindu rules. Christianity Symbols and Expression I nvestigate the meaning of the cross as the central Christian symbol, its use and its many different forms across the world Coding. Effective searching to find out more about Greece and answer questions being posed in other subject areas eg habitats in Science. Humanism - Encountering Discuss the difference between a faith and way of life (positive approach to life) Investigate the Golden Rule Christianity -Worship, pilgrimages and sacred places Think about where, how and why Christians worship Identify where Christians go on pilgrimage Discuss what they do there and what makes the places sacred to them
