2 Energy ompanion w answers.notebook pril 18, 2012 Potential Energy Stored energy Kinetic Energy Energy of Motion Even though something is not moving, it still has energy. Potential Energy vs Kinetic Energy When you lift a box, you exert energy. This energy is stored as the box's Potential Energy. If you drop the box, that energy will transform to Kinetic Energy, because the box will be in motion. 2
3 Energy ompanion w answers.notebook pril 18, 2012 Potential Energy vs Kinetic Energy When a roller coaster is lifted to the top of the hill, the ride has used energy. This energy is stored as the train's Potential Energy. t the top of the hill, the train has a great deal of Potential Energy and very little Kinetic Energy. When you go into the drop, that energy will transform to Kinetic Energy, because the train will be in motion. Types of Energy hemical Energy The energy of food (the calories in food); released through chemical reactions Electrical Energy The energy that is stored within batteries and power plants to give us power Light Energy lso known as solar energy Mechanical Energy The energy stored within the parts of a mechanical system; this is the energy of an object to do something Thermal Energy The energy of heat Nuclear Energy The energy obtained from breaking down atoms into their subatomic parts Radiant Energy - Energy that travels through empty space as waves 3
