14 Issue : 4 Rev. : Date : 21/9/211 Page TEST ENVIRONMENT AND SATELLITE CONFIGURATION 5.1. TEST ENVIRONMENT The guideline for test definition was to propose some tests which do not require specific environment (darkness, temperature stability...) especially for detection chain (IR PC detectors). Therefore all the tests were performed at ambient temperature and in clean room (class 1 ) GROUND SUPPORT EQUIPMENT The OGSE was not necessary for the following tests. The EGSE was used for TM/TC exchange. Science data storage device and interpretation work station were used SATELLITE CONFIGURATION The following subsystems were already electrically & mechanically integrated in spacecraft: EPS (Electrical Power Subsystem) DHSS (Data Handling SubSystem) AOCS (Attitude and Orbit Control Subsystem). For these SEVIRI tests, the AOCS subsystem was requested in order to provide SOL signal SEVIRI CONFIGURATION SEVIRI hardware configuration SEVIRI was mounted on MSG platform. Relevant SEVIRI harness (Bashar, Systhar) have been integrated on S/C. Baffle and cooler covers were in place SEVIRI Operational configuration At S/C level SEVIRI has been operated in the different modes defined in SEVIRI specification. Different repeat cycles (including the baseline repeat cycle) have been used during the following tests in order to achieve the purpose of each test. 17 Issue : 4 Rev. : Date : 21/9/211 Page TM/TC CROSS-CHECK Test purpose The objective of this test was to cross-check all SEVIRI TM/TC types: analog (ANA & TH), AS16, DS16 multiplexed TM/TC. All these TM/TC are delivered through OBDH bus. This test shall be considered in two different ways: 1. to check the correct behaviour of all electrical TM/TC paths 2. to verify the addressing of TM/TC. This test fulfils the test requirement sheet SEVELEC 3. FM3 test sequence The test has been performed according to the procedure MI2 in July 23, with complementary test performed in September 23. Test sequence has been executed in order to check all the electrical paths of telecommand and telemetry and to verify correct TM/TC address. 18 Issue : 4 Rev. : Date : 21/9/211 Page 18 Anomalies/out of specification The following anomalies have been raised during these tests. NC 2537 : Incorrect value for TMs S1751K & S1761K The anomaly was due to an incorrect configuration of BB sensors relays during the Xcheck. As defined in the SEVIRI ADP, all relays should have been opened. Then, a re-test with a normal configuration has been done & showed that the TM and its related TC worked properly. NC 2542 : FCU Voltage S1975V out of Xcheck limit. This TM corresponds to a test value, of no use in orbit. The monitored value is equal to the value obtained at instrument level on FM3 (4.58 V). No anomaly, Xcheck enlarged accordingly. NC 2543 : Incorrect measured value for parameters S1677Z The anomaly was due to an incorrect configuration during test. It has been shown during the global test (MI15) that this TM and its associated TC worked properly on redundant sides of the FCU. Result synthesis All MI2 test results are included in test report ref MSG.TR.FM3.54 and re-test for NC 2537 in MSG.TR.FM Correct execution of TC & correct TM data demonstrate the two different purposes of this test : to check the correct commandability in accordance with Spacecraft TC list. to check the correct observability in accordance with Spacecraft TM list. TRS/test procedure/software update Anomalies raised during this test sequence led to : an update of the instrument test procedure before delivery in order to correct the actual SEVIRI relays configuration * Modules (optimisation in duration) Conclusion All hardware paths have been checked successfully. A limited number of TM/TC has been validated through this IST1 test. Nevertheless all SEVIRI TM/TC will be checked through all SEVIRI functional test except : 535S2M : General reset of MDU : default values 536S2M : Soft reset of MDU : values in RAM preserved 535S2M : Soft reset of MDU : values in RAM preserved + programmable chain configuration reset from RAM values. These TCs allow to reset the MDU after a failure or an unknown state. These TCs have been checked at unit level. And these TCs will be not used at FM S/C level for flight operation. Test has been declared successful. All rights reserved, 27, Thales Alenia Space K-EN

20 Issue : 4 Rev. : Date : 21/9/211 Page 2 a) Verification of Science data protocol. The extract of video channel values show the correct behaviour of the Science data protocol in accordance with the specification (ref R2) b) Validation of Science data transfer. The science data transfer is demonstrated through the capability to extract the raw data of each video channel: - existence of 16 image data packets - 15 first packets have a packet length of bytes - last packet has 9196 bytes packet length Nota: Packet length = data field size (in bytes) 1 Data field = data field header (SOL time+filler=8 bytes) + SEVIRI block c) Check of the image parameters behaviour. The check of image parameter has been performed through modification of video bias, offset or gain. It demonstrated the operability of the detection chains. Comparisons between nominal and redundant detection electronics have also been made and demonstrated the similarity of behaviour. TRS/test procedure/software update No TM/TC anomaly occurred during the execution of the test sequence. No update, neither of the procedure nor of the test sequence itself was deemed necessary. Conclusion The overall test was performed with successful results. All rights reserved, 27, Thales Alenia Space K-EN

21 Issue : 4 Rev. : Date : 21/9/211 Page MECHANISM FUNCTIONAL BEHAVIOUR Test purpose The objectives of this test is to verify the commandability and monitoring of : 1. scan mirror motor 2. refocusing mechanism 3. calibration motor. This test corresponds to SEVELEC 6, SEVELEC 7, SEVELEC 8. FM3 test sequence These tests have been performed according to the procedure MI12 in September 23. The following test sequences have been followed. 1. Scan mirror motor : verification of Scanning, retrace & reference motion verification of limit switches behaviour monitoring of Scan position potentiometers. Note: it also includes validation of 2 TC s (reset) not tested at instrument level. 2. Refocusing mechanism : verification of direct, reverse and reference refocusing motion verification of limit switches behaviour. 3. Calu motor : verification of calibration motion task (from storage to calibration position : go & return) monitoring of limit switches. All these tests were performed with different SEVIRI configurations (nominal & redundant). These tasks were performed using FCU mode manager (specific «test frame») and directly through overriding commands. «Test frame» used during IST1 are included in Appendix 4. Anomalies/out of specification The following anomaly has been raised during these test. NC 291 : Limit Switch 3 incorrect status The anomaly was due to an incorrect configuration due to AIT module: Two consecutive TC have been sent for LS3 and LS4, with commanded arguments for respectively LS3 and LS4, but arguments derived from TM for the other LS. Tempo between the 2 TC is not long enough to ensure that when uploading the second TC, the first has already be returned through the TM. The command has been sent twice in order to change the status. No consequence at S/C level. Corrective action (longer tempo) has been implemented in module. 30 Issue : 4 Rev. : Date : 21/9/211 Page IMAGE DATA ANALYSIS (EMC) This test has been run according to the procedure MS38 in August 26. All the results are included in test report MSG.TR.FM The objectives of this test (also called "EMC image") was to verify that SEVIRI data are correctly generated / transmitted through the video (at CDMU output) / the RF (at MCP output) links & to check the chains integrity after the storage period. This test has been performed in both converter synchronised and free running modes. The following table summarises the measurement dispersions toward the different acquisition modes before & after storage : Image data test before MSG-3 storage [with MDU-3] March 24 vis6 vis8 ir16 ir87 ir97 ir18 ir12 ir134 HRV CONF : 1 SYNCHRO FREE RUN CONF : 4 SYNCHRO FREE RUN Image data test before MSG-3 long term storage [with MDU-2 after repair] August 26 vis6 vis8 ir16 ir87 ir97 ir18 ir12 ir134 HRV CONF : 1 SYNCHRO FREE RUN CONF : 4 SYNCHRO FREE RUN (<1) (<1) (<3.3) (<7) (<24) (<3.75) (<3.8) (<61) (<2.4) Table 7.2 The measured noise is compliant for all channels w.r.t the specifications. No difference has been observed between the different modes at de-storage. It can be noted that the MDU swap from FM3 to FM2 is as expected due to its interchangeability (no modification of the performances). Meanwhile to the successful EMC results a NCR.ASC.182 / NC12162 has been raised. It appears that after detection chain settings upload 2 NOGO are raised on the IR8.7 bias mirror and detector telemetries on redundant side. However, unsaturated detection chains show that the settings have been applied correctly. After investigation and analysis through several MRB, it has been demonstrated that the anomaly was located within the PU unit (described in NCR.ASC.182). 32 Issue : 4 Rev. : Date : 21/9/211 Page PU REPAIR AND RE-INTEGRATION (NCR 182) Meanwhile to the successful results of the EMC done before short term storage (refer to chapter 6) a NCR 182 / NC12162 has been raised. It appears that after detection chain settings upload 2 NOGO are raised on the IR8.7 bias mirror and detector telemetries on redundant side. However, unsaturated detection chains show that the settings have been applied correctly. After investigation and analysis through several MRB, it has been demonstrated that the anomaly was located within the PU unit (described in NCR 182). Decision to dismount the unit has been taken in April 27. Investigation and repair activities were done in COMDEV premises. Investigation and repair activities are described through NCR 182 and ComDev NCR 181 recordings. Unit was returned to TAS premises in October 28. All activities foreseen as part of NCR 182 have been successfully completed, with no error as stated in MSG ASC SA MN 315. The NCR was kept open until completion of the OVT planned during the de-storage phase as the performances at cold operating temperature will allow full visibility on the good health of the chains. 33 Issue : 4 Rev. : Date : 21/9/211 Page TEST EVALUATION FOLLOWING THE LONG TERM STORAGE (IST2) TM/TC CROSS-CHECK FM3 test sequence The test has been performed according to the procedure MI 2 in February 211. Test sequence has been executed in order to check all the electrical paths of telecommand and telemetry and to verify that TM/TC addresses are correct. Anomalies/out of specification One anomaly was raised during these tests. NC : Incorrect measured value for parameters S1924K During tests of Redundant SEVIRI, TM S1924K is measured 185,8 K whereas expected between 83,K and K. The TM remains strictly constant during the test. In the calibration table of the thermistor, 185,8 K corresponds to the raw signal value : it is nominal that at ambient the thermistor TM raw value is. The X-check module being generic for all MSG models, the upper limit (in K) shall be modified to take into account the max engineering value corresponding to raw value, respectively MSG3 : 185,8 K for MSG3, 181,29 K for MSG4. Consequently, the upper limit (in K) was modified with 186 K. This NC is closed. Result synthesis All MI 2 test results are included in the test report ref MSG.TR.FM Correct execution of TC & correct TM data demonstrate the two different purposes of this test : to check the correct commandability in accordance with Spacecraft TC list. to check the correct observability in accordance with Spacecraft TM list. 37 Issue : 4 Rev. : Date : 21/9/211 Page SEVIRI OPERATIONAL SEQUENCE FM3 test sequence The test was performed according to the procedure MI15 during FFT2 in February 211. It allowed to check the mechanism activations (scan & calibration) in a single frame. Anomalies/out of specification NC 21777: In MI15 procedure, SEVIRI (successively Nominal then Redundant) passes from Stand-By mode to Configuration Mode. In Configuration Mode, the scan mechanism goes to L1 switch as reference, then to L the image first line, then in several defined positions: the contact on L1 switch is known to have a reproducibility of ± 2 lines. The difference (6 Ohms corresponding to 1 line) observed before/after the activation of the scan mechanism with the redundant SEVIRI is perfectly consistent with the reproducibility of ± 2 lines. It demonstrates that the behaviour of the scan mechanism is quite nominal. As a corrective action, MI15 procedure is modified to define better the success criteria, taking into account the known reproducibility of ± 2 lines of the contact on L1 switch. The NC is in correction (D2). Result synthesis All test results are included in test report MSG.TR.FM An extract of a test performed with activation of mechanisms (scan and calibration) and functionalities (HRV image break, retrace profile) is presented in Appendix 3 and illustrates the good operability of the instrument within the satellite. TRS/test procedure/software update As a corrective action of NC 21777, MI15 procedure is modified to define better the success criteria, observed before/after the activation of the scan mechanism. Conclusion The correct functional behaviour of SEVIRI has been checked through this test, with activation of all mechanisms and functionalities, on both nominal and redundant configurations. The test was declared successful. All rights reserved, 27, Thales Alenia Space K-EN

39 Issue : 4 Rev. : Date : 21/9/211 Page CONCLUSION 1.1. TESTS PERFORMED UP TO THE LONG TERM STORAGE All electrical & functional tests were performed without problem. Few anomalies were identified throughout the overall test campaign. They led to minor procedures & modules updates in order to correct all remaining misunderstanding wrt new team about SEVIRI operability. Most SEVIRI TM/TC were checked through this electrical and functional tests. SEVIRI electrical interfaces were verified and validated. SEVIRI behaviour (operability, configuration, links towards the S/C) was verified and fully validated. Additional testing due to MDU swap and MDU-2 integration was done successfully and the NCR is closed. All activities done in the frame of PU repair and re-integration have been successfully completed, with no error. As the performances at cold operating temperature will allow full visibility on the good health of the chains, the final consolidation of the PU nominal behaviour was obtained during OVT done in the frame of the de-storage phase in May 211. NCR 182 is closed CONCLUSION FOR THE TESTS PERFORMED DURING THE DE-STORAGE CAMPAIGN All electrical & functional tests of [AD5] were performed. Few anomalies were identified throughout the overall test campaign. They led to minor procedures & modules updates available both for MSG-3 and MSG-4. The SEVIRI TM/TC were checked through this test. SEVIRI electrical interfaces were verified and validated. SEVIRI behaviour (operability, configuration, links towards the S/C) was verified and fully validated, thus demonstrating the good health of SEVIRI after the long storage period and the de-storage operations.
