1 A Profile Of Students Enrolled at The University Of Iowa Fall Semester 2009 Prepared by Office of the Registrar

2 Preface Keep in mind the following items of explanation when reviewing information contained in the Profile of Students Enrolled at The University of Iowa, Fall Semester A cut-off date of September 8 was used for all Fall semester enrollment statistics to achieve consistency both within the Profile and with other enrollment reports published by the University. This marks a shift in our census date over previous years, which was always as of the fifteenth day. Beginning Fall 2004, The University of Iowa has moved the census date to the tenth day of the semester to bring it into alignment with the other Regents institutions. 2. Entrance examination scores for the Henry B. Tippie School of Management and the Graduate College will be reported for the previous year s classes in order to include all available information compiled in these areas and to more accurately reflect the range of scores for the entire entering classes. The early date of preparation of this report would have allowed inclusion of only a fraction of these scores for students entering Fall Entrance examination scores and G.P.A. data for the professional colleges of Dentistry, Law, and Medicine are reported for their Fall 2008 classes. 3. As of Fall 1996, College of Pharmacy students are included in the professional student count. This reflects the process of phasing out the Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy degree in favor of a six-year Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) program. 4. As of Fall 1999, Henry B. Tippie School of Management (MBA) students are included in the professional student count rather than the graduate student count. 5. Beginning Spring 2003 the College of Public Health instituted an undergraduate and graduate program with the certificate being granted by the College of Public Health. All other Public Health students still receive their degree from the Graduate College. 6. Beginning Spring 2003 the College of Nursing instituted a graduate program, Professional Masters in Nursing and Healthcare Practice, with the degree being granted via the College of Nursing. All other graduate degrees are still granted via the Graduate College. 7. Beginning Spring 2006 the Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine instituted a graduate program, Masters in Medical education, with the degree being granted via the Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine. All other graduate degrees are still granted via the Graduate College. 8. Beginning Fall 2006 two (2) new tables were added. One showing historical enrollment by level with minority count from Fall 1963 onward. One showing admissions data since Beginning Fall 2008 two (2) new tables were added. One showing historical number of courses offered by days of the week for Fall 1973 onward. Another one showing the same data for Spring 1973 onward. Further clarification of materials contained in the Profile may be obtained by contacting Kathryn Stoltenberg, Thomas Kruckeberg, or Lawrence Lockwood, Office of the Registrar, at (319) or registrar@uiowa.edu iv
