3 Structure and Principle of Operation (TX Series) The torque releasors in TX Series are available in four types, B,, and R to meet various applications. The basic clutch mechanism is coon structure. The structure and principle of type are explained below: Hub boss Flange ction ring Key Steel ball Bearing Washer djusting ring Hexagon socket head setscrew Ring WR type stopper ring Pin 1 1 (1) In ordinary operation, the steel ball held by the flange 2 is pressurized and held in the ball pocket of the hub boss 1 with the force of the spring, and the torque is transmitted from the hub boss 1 to the flange 2 through the steel ball. (2) When overloaded, the steel ball is pushed out on the slope of the ball pocket of the hub boss 1, and the transmission torque is shut off. t this time, the action ring moves in the axial direction (to the adjusting ring side). By making use of this motion, the overload can be detected by limit switch, proximity switch, or the like. () When resuming operation, after removing the cause of overload, the input side or output side of the torque releasor is rotated. When the steel ball comes to the specified position of the ball pocket (one position in one revolution), it is automatically reset by the force of the spring. 13 esign and Operating Principle (TY Series) The TY series of torque releasers is available in, and R types, to meet the users needs more closely. The clutch mechanism is basically the same in all three types. The design and operating principle will be explained using type TY as the example Hub boss Flange Bearing C-ring for hole Case C-ring for shaft WR type snap ring Hexagon socket head setscrew Steel ball Parallel pin Segment Taper ring Slide ring djusting ring Metal Clip Pin 2 1 (1) In normal operation, the steel balls held by the hub boss 1 are forced into the ball pocket of the hub boss 1 by the spring 1, and the torque is transmitted from the hub boss 1 through the steel balls to the flange 2. (2) When an overload occurs, the steel balls are pushed out along the sloping ball pocket in the flange 2 in order to stop transmitting torque. In addition, the segment 11 moves up the hub boss slope against the force of the springs 1 to open the gap between the case and the taper ring, finally reaching the peak of the hub boss. Consequently, the force needed to press the steel balls against the ball pocket in the flange 2 is removed and therefore the flange 2 is free to rotate on the bearing. t this time, since the case moves in the axial direction (toward the adjusting ring 1 ), you can use this motion to detect an overload by installing a limit switch, proximity switch or the like. () To resume operation, remove the cause of the overload and rotate the input side or the output side of the torque releaser until the marks on the hub boss 1 and flange 2 are aligned, and then press the case against the flange 2 to reset it. 21 Precautions When Selecting Torque Releaser Location in which torque releaser is installed When a torque releaser (overload clutch) is installed in a power transmission line, it works as a safety clutch to prevent the power transmission system from breaking due to an actuator overload, thus enhancing the safety of the system and improving the percentage of time that the system is operational. To get the most from a torque releaser, it is advisable to install it in a position close to the actuator, where overloads are more likely to occur. Torque releaser size When selecting a torque releaser, it is essential that the mounting shaft hole can be made and that the release torque can be set. Setting of release torque The load characteristics of a power transmission shaft vary with the type of load. Generally speaking, the load characteristics are usually calculated from the rated output of the driving machine and the load torque of the part on which the torque releaser is installed. 22 Setting of Release Torque The TX series torque releasor is available in four types, B,,, R, so as to be applicable in varied uses. However, the setting method of release torque is the same, and an example TX type is shown below. (1) The TX series torque releasor is shipped by setting at the minimum release torque, and the torque range graduation is 1 (except when the torque is specified by customer). When adjusting the torque, first check the model name by the name plate of the torque releasor, and find the torque range corresponding to the setting torque in the release torque curve of each model shown in page 2, from the intersection of the axis of ordinates and axis of abscissas. (2) Tighten the adjusting ring in the direction of R by using the adjusting tool until the red line indicates the torque range graduation to be set. Where more accurate release torque is necessary, carry out a release test, and turn the adjusting ring in the direction of R to increase the release torque, or in the direction of L to decrease it, and adjust the torque correctly.
