COAL AND COKE STATICTICS (a) Coal Production, Imports, Exports Production of coal during the month of March amounted to 1,400,361 tons, an increase of 9.5 per cent over the output in March, 1954.

Landed Imports of coal during the month under review amounted to 574,130 tons, an Increase of 6.8 per cent compared with landed imports in Warch, 1954.

3 COAL AND COKE STATICTICS (a) Coal Production, Imports, Exports Production of coal during the month of March amounted to 1,400,361 tons, an increase of 9.5 per cent over the output in March, Production of coal from stripping operations in March amounted to 506,706 tons, or 36.2 per cent of the total output. This was an increase of 11.4 per cent over the strip mine output in March, Landed Imports of coal during the month under review amounted to 574,130 tons, an Increase of 6.8 per cent compared with landed imports in Warch, Exports of coal for the month amounted to 72,222 tons, compared with 14,818 tons in the corresponding month of last year. Tonnage produced during the month was made up of 68,330 tons from the eastern provinces, 240,1489 tons from Ontario and 26,302 tons from western Canada.

Producers' stocks of oven and retort coke, excluding breeze, on March 31st, 1955, amounted to 232,134 tons, of which 101,291 tons were located in the eastern provinces, 102,609 tons in Cntario and

Exrorte Production of coke from ovens and gas retorts during the month of March, 1955, amcunted to 335,121 tons, as compared with 301,324 tons in the previous month and 293,262 tons in March, Tonnage produced during the month was made up of 68,330 tons from the eastern provinces, 240,1489 tons from Ontario and 26,302 tons from western Canada. Charges to ovens or retorts during the month Included 87,548 tons of Canadian coal and 364,170 tons of imported coal. Producers' stocks of oven and retort coke, excluding breeze, on March 31st, 1955, amounted to 232,134 tons, of which 101,291 tons were located in the eastern provinces, 102,609 tons in Cntario and 28,234 tons in the western provinces. Stccks of breeze totalled 63,204 tons and were located across Canada as follows: 6,099 tone in the eastern provinces, 34,005 tons in Ontario and 23,100 tons in the western provinces.
