Under the Act on Geological and Mining Law and the Act on Water Law, it performs the tasks of the Polish Geological Survey and the Polish Hydrogeological Survey. 4 Main tasks of the Institute include: geological mapping of the country assessment of mineral potential of Poland and evaluation of mineral resources assessment of mineral and petroleum potential and resources of Poland geological and hydrogeological data storage, processing and dissemination developing research programmes, geological expertise and consulting services, preparation of information packets for exploration and mining concessions evaluation and monitoring of quantity and quality of groundwater resources assessment of natural environment and environmental hazards preparation of waste management and environmental protection plans design and supervision of rehabilitation works laboratory services: chemical, geochemical, mineralogical and petrographical analyses international cooperation in all areas of geological sciences

13 Proposals for cooperation The PGI-NRI is deeply interested in opening and cultivating contacts with: government bodies, especially those responsible for geology and mining and environmental protection, research institutes, academics and research organisations, geological and mining companies in order to screen the potential fields of cooperation and create joint projects.
