3 q The primary objec(ve is to ensure from both a sta7s7cal and geographical (geospa7al) perspec7ve that the key principle of the 2030 Agenda, to leave on one behind, is reflected in the global indicator framework q The Third Mee(ng of the Working Group will be hosted by the Government of China through the Na7onal Administra7on of Surveying, Mapping and Geoinforma7on in Kunming, China 8 10 May 2017 q The Mexico City Expert Group Mee(ng was the second mee7ng of the Working Group and was hosted by the Government of Mexico through the Ins7tuto Nacional de Estadís7ca y GeograSa (INEGI) at its premises in Ciudad de México December of the 22 members of the Working Group par7cipated Total of 30 par7cipants, including invited interna7onal and na7onal experts

4 Highlights from the Mexico City Expert Group Mee7ng q Reviewed global indicators through a geographic loca7on lens. q Consensus around a short-list of 15 indicators (4 Tier I; 3 Tier II; and 8 Tier III) where geospa7al informa7on together with sta7s7cal data can contribute directly to the produc7on of the iden7fied indicators Tier I 9.c Tier II Tier II q An addi7onal short-list of 9 indicators (1 Tier 1; 3 Tier II; 4 Tier III and with mul7ple classifica7ons) where geospa7al informa7on can significantly support the produc7on of these indicators Tier I (4.5.1) Tier II (4.5.1) Tier III a.1 5.a (4.5.1)

5 q Geospa7al informa7on is able to provide enabling methodologies and processes for disaggrega7on. q Disaggrega7on of na7onal sta7s7cal data is considerably strengthened through the lens of geospa7al informa7on q This is acknowledged within the principles of the Global Sta7s7cal Geospa7al Framework Disaggregated by Geographic Loca7on Sta7s7cal Geospa7al Geospa2al informa2on and earth observa2ons provide enabling methodologies and processes for disaggrega2on, strengthening na2onal sta2s2cal data and the global indicators through the power of loca2on

7 q Agreed to the forma7on of 6 Task Teams 3 Task Teams focused on working through 3 agreed indicators, namely 6.6.1, and Task Teams sought to address three iden7fied cross-cucng issues, namely data disaggrega7on by geographic loca7on, alterna7ve data sources and interna7onal geospa7al (global) dataset and sources Some considera7ons from the Task Teams: q Task Team TT-2 on Indicator 9.1.1, considered a country-level case study (through a na2onal level workshop) that observed the following Considered that, for the purpose and reliability of this indicator, peri-urban, other urban areas and towns that are not officially gaze"ed as urban areas should be excluded from the rural popula7on. Household ques7onnaire could not produce reliable informa7on on the 2 kilometres distance as respondents did not know how to es7mate distances. Geospa7al informa7on is needed to provide unbiased 2 kilometres distance determina7on and the loca7on of exis7ng all-season road. Geospa7al informa7on together with geo-coded popula7on data will improve the produc7on of this indicator.

Iden7fy addi7onal and alterna7ve data sources, par7cularly satellite data/imageries from interna7onal sources that are freely available, that could support the produc7on of indicators.

9 Addi7onal Considera7ons q The five guiding principles of the Global Sta7s7cal and Geospa7al Framework were Adopted by the 6 th Session of the United Na7ons Commi"ee of Experts on Global Geospa7al Informa7on Management (August 2016); and Endorsed by the 48 th Session of the United Na7ons Sta7s7cal Commission (March 2017). Founda(on for the integra(on of sta(s(cal and geospa(al informa(on including to support and improve the produc(on of indicators.
