1 Landscape and Water Resources Management (LWRM) BUCHAREST UNIVERSITY FACULTY OF GEOGRAPHY Dr. Liliana ZAHARIA Tourism Studies and Forecast Research Center (TSFRC) RESEARCH CENTERS Center for Geomorphological Dynamics and Land Degradation (CGDLD) Centre for Environment Research And Impact Studies (CERIS) The Interdisciplinary Centre on Advanced Researches on Territorial Dynamics (ICARTD) The Center for Geodemographical Researches and Territorial Analysis (CGRTA) Biometeo-climatic Research Lab (BIOCLIMALAB) MRI - WORKSHOP ON GLOBAL CHANGE RESEARCH IN MOUNTAIN REGIONS, Vienna, 7 May 2010
2 Main research axes Studies on spatial and temporal variability of liquid and solid flows in relation with climatic variability and human activities. Studies on the quantitative and qualitative characteristics of water resources and their management. Analysis of natural risks, especially those induced by the hydro-climatic hazards. Analysis of landscape and land use dynamics in relation with climate and human changes. Our goal is to develop predictive tools for assessment of natural risks and alterations in flow regime and water quality parameters, land use and landscapes, in order to recommend appropriate adapting strategies. International collaborations - Denis Diderot Paris University - Paris 12 University - Lille 1 University - Maine University (from Le Mans) - Liege University
3 RECENT RESEARCH PROJECTS Study concerning the Iron Gates I Reservoir hydrology and its influence on the morpho-dynamics of the Romanian R slope, for sustainable management of water resources and landscape (Director: Liliana ZAHARIA) Development and implementation of an algorithm for landscape assessment and prognosis. Application to the mountainous and subcarpathian sector of the Prahova Valley (Director: Ileana PATRU-STUPARIU) The flood risk on Prahova Valley (Director: Gabriela IOANA-TOROIMAC) (Projects financed by the National Council for Academic Research of Romania) DOCTORATE THESIS The hydrogeomorphological dynamics of Prahova River: current functioning, recent evolution and geographical consequences (Student PhD. Gabriela IOANA-TOROIMAC, thesis coordinated by directors from Bucharest, Lille 1 and Denis Diderot Paris Universities) The Trotus Catchment: study on water resources and their quality (Student PhD. Gianina NECULAU; directed by Liliana ZAHARIA) Analyze of the hydrogeomorphological dynamics of Teleajen River using remote sensing and SIG (Student PhD. Simona CATANA; directed by Liliana ZAHARIA) River flow variability in Romania (Student PhD. Marius BARSAN; directed by Liliana ZAHARIA)

5 PRIORITY RESEARCH THEMES WITH POTENTIAL FOR FUTURE INTERNATIONAL COLLABORATION We are interested for cooperation in projects on Integrated studies on climate variability and its impacts on environment and society Impacts on: - water resources; - ecosystems; - landscape and land use; - urban areas; - agriculture; - hydroenergy; - tourism; - industries; - human health. These studies are conforming with the European and national policies concerning the adaptation to climate changes (for. Ex. EU WHITE PAPER - Adapting to climate change, 2009; National Adaptation Guide to Climate Change, 2008).
