2 Physical Geography: The course aims to help the students in the process of establishing a clear idea about the earth and its relationships with the solar group and out space, in addition to provide them with fundamental concepts in this field. It includes the studying of relationship between the earth and sun, latitudes and longitudes, the geographic distribution of climate elements, soil, vegetation and the factors which affect the formulation of earth surface. The students will prepare their reports depending on field works Human Geography: The course aims to provide the students with enough skills of models building which are related to this area of study. It includes the studying of historical development of the geographic trend, fundamental concepts, models and theories of human geography and its relationships with other sciences. The students will prepare some reports to the contents of the course General Geography: The course aims to provide the students with the main concepts of the subject and its relationship with other branches of geography. It includes the study of fundamentals of geography science as different forms of the earth, the main changes which happened through the geologic times, structural and tectonic movements, types of soil and rocks and its organic and mineral components. The student will visit some selected locations and prepare their reports. 2

3 Geomorphology: The course aims to provide the students with the main concepts of this branch of geography and to gain the basic skills of field measurements related to the earth surface features. It includes the study of interior and exterior processes which affect the formulation of earth surface and the stages of this formulation through different periods of time. The students will prepare some reports depending on field studies and measurements Climatic Geography: The course aims to provide the students with enough background about the main concepts of climatology and to gain the skills which are needed to act positively with different climatic conditions. It includes studying of the main principles of interaction between solar energy and the climatic patterns, climate elements and the factors which affect the geographic distribution of climatic regions. The students will apply some measurements of climate elements with applications on different activities and then prepare their reports Political Geography: The course aims to provide the students with enough knowledge about the effect of geographic features on the international relationships and the political behavior of states. It includes studying of exterior function of the state and its role in the global system, the theories of states growth, the role and functions of local governments, effect of borders on international conflicts and geography of elections. The students will prepare some reports related to the contents.

4 Population Geography: The aim of this course is providing students with information about population distributions on international level and the relationship of there distributions with environment, resources and other demographic characteristics, in addition to the geographic distribution of migration, manpower and cities extension, population expectations and applied and suggested population policies. Students will be trained on data collecting from different resources and write some reports Location Theory: The Course aims to provide students with the fundamental concepts of location theory and applying these concepts in the studying of geographic distribution of agricultural, industrial and mercantile locations, in addition to the studying of models of planned and randomly locations of these activities. Students will apply some of the concepts through field vistas and writing some reports Cultural Geography: The aim of this course in to know the geographic factors which affected the raising and distribution of global civilizations. It includes the studying of the geographic distribution of languages, religions, human races, regions and their spatial and development the cultural deployment and the factors which affected it. Student will prepare reports about these subjects. 4

5 Economic Resources: This course aims to provide the students with a background about the spatial distribution of the important economic resources, and the enough skills to use them positively. If it includes the studying of renewal of these resources and the global patterns of their distribution, the production, consuming transporting and the problems of present and future of its maluse. Student will visit some related schemes and prepare their reports Cartography & Aerial Photography: The course aims to provide the students with the main concepts of the course, and to have the enough skills to use, understand, establish, read and explain maps and aerial photographs. It includes the studying of development of cartography, the types of maps geographic projections, the techniques of data presentation and the use of codes, the geometric characteristics of aerial photographs, the formulation of maps from them and the use of them in different areas. Students will prepare maps and analyze aerial photographs Using Statistical Methods in Geography: The course aims to provide the students with the main principles of statistical methods and their use in geography, it includes data collecting, classification, analyzing and explaining, in addition to measurements of tendency and divergence. The students will apply these methods on selected geographic problems Topographic Survey: 5

6 The course aims to provide the students with the main concepts of survey science and to have the enough skills to use it in geographic studies. It includes the importance and types of survey, the types of measurements, the errors of measurements, methods of writing surval data and establishing of cross sections and reference points. The students will apply field measurements and write their reports Military Geography: This course aims to know the relationship between geography and the military processes. It includes the studying of geographic factors which affect the practice of military processes, the building of, the geographic features of Jordan and Palestine, applications of remote sensing and aerial photography and maps in military fields in addition to the analyzing of Arab-Israeli and Gulf wars. The students will prepare reports about the contents of the course Water Resources: The course aims to provide the students with background about the main resources of surface and ground water, and to have the skills of using them positively, it includes the studying of the factors which affect the water circle, rivers and sea systems, consuming of surface and ground water and the methods of their conservation, and methods of groundwater feeding. The students will visit some regions related to the contents and prepare their reports Environmental and Natural Hazards: 6

7 The course aims to provide the students will enough knowledge about the more important environmental and natural hazards, and to have the skills to conserve the components of environment and how to behave positively with the hazards. It includes the studying of the concepts and types of them and the individual and group responses, the national and international programs and policies of avoiding them, in addition of some models about them in Jordan. Students will prepare their reports after field visits Arid Lands: The course aims to provide the students with them main knowledge abut the nature of arid lands and the enough skills to treat positively with these lands, it includes the studying of standards which are used to define them, the natural and human characteristics of different types of deserts, and its available resources and the abilities of investments according to recent technology. The student will visit some region, then write their reports Settlement Geography: The course aims to provide the students with the basic concepts of this branch of geography, and to gain enough skills about the methods of this field. It includes the studying of settlement centers, their existence and development, the spatial relationships, the interior environment and land use, in addition to the problems which the settlement centers face. The student will visit some centers and analyze aerial photographs of them then write their reports International Problems: 7

8 After studying the course, students will have good knowledge about the important international problems, and the geographic background of them. It includes the applying of geographic theories and models which they studied in political geography course and the issues and problems which have geographic dimensions. The students will prepare their reports about the contents of the course Transportation Network: The course aims to provide the students with the importance of transportation network in different fields on local, regional and international levels. It includes the studying of development types and characteristics of transportation means, in addition to the relationship between transportation planning and the zoning of settlement centers. Students will visit some centers and analyze aerial photographs then write the reports Regional Development: The course aims of explain the importance of planning in development, and to supply the students with enough skills which are needed to solve many developmental problems, it includes the studying of role of planning in the development of economic and human resources, the developmental problems, the policies of regional development and the methods of solutions on sectoral, regional and comprehensive levels in addition to analyzing of some models of Jordanian development plans. Students will write some reports about the contents of the course Medical Geography: 8

9 This course aims to provide the students with the basic knowledge about the concepts of population health level and the main factors which affect it, in addition to have the enough skills about dealing with these factors in order to improve the health level of people. It includes the study of relationship between health and the geographic distribution of health services centers and the best scientific methods which lead to act efficiently and the equity of its distribution. Students will visit some centers and prepare their reports Geographic Information Systems: The course aims to provide the students with the main concepts of GIS, and its importance on local regional and global level. It includes studying of the basic elements of GIS, programs which are necessary for acting them, methods of organizing data, installing ordering and analyzing them and it fields of use. Students will apply some practical exercises by using computer facilities Remote Sensing: The course aims to provide the students with the basic concepts of Remote Sensing and to gain enough skills of its applications in different fields. It includes studying of the basic principles, the physical characteristics of atmosphere and earth surfaces and its effects on wave characteristics, methods of analyzing remote sensing data and its different use. Students will visit Jordan National Center for Remote Sensing and analyze some aerial photographs Map Use and Analysis: 9

10 This course aims to provide the students with enough skills to deal with maps as understanding, reading, analyzing and explanation. It includes studying of the importance of the map as a tool of communication and data transformation, reading the map and understanding the symbols, the concept of location, direction and distance, analyzing spatial and quantitive concepts, explanation of physical and human environment. Students will deal with practical analyzing of physical and human features by using the map Special Topics in Physical Geography: The course aims to provide the students with geographic information about specific topic and have the main skills to deal with the scientific methods in research and analyzing. It includes the selection of know table subjects authorized by the department council, the practical practice depends on the nature of selected course contents Applied Geomorphology: The course aims to provide the students with the suitable skills to apply geomorphology in different fields. It includes applying geomorphology on construction works and earth avalanches, and the studying of the ability of regions to civil and lousing usage. Students will prepare field studying and write some reports Climate Change: 10

11 The course aims to provide students with the concept of climate change and the methods of field study, the effect of human activity and wars on climate change and the results of this event. The student will apply the concepts and the contents in addition to make measurements and build models and write some reports Water Basins: This course aims to provide the students with knowledge about water basins in Jordan and their importance in many aspects of life. It includes the studying of the geographic nature of the water basins, feeding regions, the main problems of them and the methods of decreasing the effects of these problems. Students will write some reports depending on field works Terrain Analysis: The course aims to use the geographic knowledge and skills which gained by the students in analyzing and evaluation the geographic regions. It includes the concept of terrain analysis, its evaluation, systems and applications in different areas as terrain analysis changes and explanation by using aerial photography and field survey the study of natural hazards in addition to the limitation of soil erodability. The students will prepare their reports after field visits Regional Planning: 11

12 The course aims to provide the students with the basic concepts of regional planning, its importance and applications, and to gain the suitable skills about dealing with different resources and available abilities in order to solve present and future problems of society. It includes the study of regional planning development, the procedures of planning process, modeling and quantitative methods, analyzing of comprehensive planning and its applications in different activities on local and regional level. The students will practice field studies and prepare their reports Strategic Geography: The course aims to provide the students with basic concepts of this branch of geography and the importance of understanding the international conflicts. It includes the studying of the elements of strategic policies and its international theories, theories of global system and international dependent theory, the conflict regions over the world, the strategic balance, the strategic importance of power recourses and the geographic dimensions of basing and regional and international unions and their role in the conflicts. The students will prepare some reports related to the contents of the course Population Geography: 12

13 The course aims to provide the students with suitable information about population distribution on global level and the relationship of it with the environment, the resources and other demographic characteristics, the geographic distribution and migrations, manpower and cities growth, population expectations and population polices. The students will be trained on how to collect population data from different resources then prepare their reports Geography of Jordan: The course aims to provide the students with information about the geographic features of Jordan and to gain the skills which help them to deal with these features and the available resources. It includes the study of natural situations, analyzing of production and its obstacles, population and cities in addition to some environmental problems. The students will visit some selected locations and prepare some reports related to the contents Principles of Geography: The course aims to provide the students with the main concepts of geography. It includes the study of geography branches, natural and human, in addition to know the methods which identify geography as the map, or those which had been used to serve the geographic research like remote sensing and GIS. The students will apply their knowledge on field visits to selected locations and prepare their reports Principles of Environment Science: 1

14 The course aims to provide the students with the main concepts of environment science then to gain enough skills to deal with the different elements. It includes the study of ecosystems. Power transformation through eco-systems and biogeochemical circles, eco-systems administration, environmental pollution, and the methods of decreasing its effects. The students will visit some selected location to compare theoretical study with field situations then prepare the reports Geography of the Arab Homeland: The course aims to develop the national sense through knowing the most important of geographic features of Arab Home Land and to know the facets of complementary and the ability of realizing it and the relationship of it with the international importance of the Arab Homeland, the regional divisions, and some political problems which have geographic dimensions. The students will prepare their reports about the contents Urban Planning: The course aims to provide the students with the importance of planning and its role in the problems which the cities face. It includes the study of city development and planning, modeling and procedures, present and future planning for population land use, housing and environmental protection. The students will prepare their reports after field visits Special Topic in Human Geography: 14

15 The course aims to provide the students with geographic information about specific geographic subject and to gain some skills to deal with developed methods in research, studying and analyzing. It includes the studying of specific subject proved by the department council. The practical side depends on the nature of the selected subject Research Methods in Geography: The course aims to provide the students with enough skill in order to apply the scientific methods in research designing and preparing, and to use quantitative methods in studying analyzing and explanation and using the theories and models building. The students will train on how to write researches, how to analyze and build models by using previous studies and researches Quantitative Methods in Geography: The course aims to gain enough skills to deal with statistical and developed quantitative methods in geographic studies and problems solving. It includes the study of statistical method like correlation and step wiser egression, other developed methods selected by the lecturer and provide by the department council. The students will practice some exercises and apply them in geographic studies in addition to some reports Computer Application in Geography: 15

16 The aim of this course is to have students acquire the knowledge and the ability to deal with computer software s and use them in geographic research. It includes the use of such software to analyze geographic data using Statistical package for Social Science (SPSS) and Excel. Students practice how to make graphics, geographic maps, and d maps using appropriate software such as Excel, Map View, Arc view, surfer and winsurf. 16
