1 KNES Geography Course Outline Year Geography is the study of Earth s landscapes, peoples, places and environments. It is, quite simply, about the world in which we live. Geography is unique in bridging the social sciences (human geography) with the natural sciences (physical geography). Human geography concerns the understanding of the dynamics of cultures, societies and economies, and physical geography concerns the understanding of the dynamics of physical landscapes and the environment. Geography helps to inform us about. The places and communities in which we live and work Our natural environments and the pressures they face The interconnectedness of the world and our communities within it How and why the world is changing, globally and locally How our individual and societal actions contribute to those changes The choices that exist in managing our world for the future The importance of location in business and decision-making In Term 1, This term Year will study global development. They will look at how a countries development is measured based on key criteria. Students will study the short and long term factors that influence development as well as Historical reasons why development has or has not occurred in countries. They will examine the advantages and disadvantages of development on specific countries in case studies. In Term, This term Year will study Tourism. This will include looking at why tourism is so popular to the economies of many countries creating opportunities and challenges in the process. Students will also begin to look at the rock cycle and plate tectonics. This will include volcanoes, earthquakes and tsunamis. In Term, This term Year will study Globalisation. This will include looking at recent economic changes and how multinational trade is growing. Students will study the advantages and disadvantages of globalisation and will focus on comparing the UK and China.
2 Assessment: Behaviour in class and participation in the lessons: Classwork & homework: End of Term written exam: 0 Total: 0 Rules / Teacher s expectations / Discipline policy: As well as the school discipline policy all learners are expected to follow the following rules as agreed by last year s students. Our class rules... 1) We never use put downs. ) Prepare to begin work and activities promptly. ) Work hard. ) We listen to each other. ) We avoid distractions. (Lateness and unauthorized absence will be punished following the discipline policy.) Expectations All students are expected to arrive on time for all lessons. The correct procedure must be carried out for those absent, this includes taking responsibility to complete any set homework that may be missed. Students must bring all equipment and books with them to every lesson. This includes a pen, pencil, ruler, rubber, sharpener, glue stick and scissors.

Meet Ghana (Case Study) Development case study, how does an MEDC compare to an LEDC? Poverty in a Ghanaian village How did the development gap grow so big? Who is to blame for the development How developed is Ghana? gap? 8 11 Mapping development around the world. How did the development gap grow? These don't help either... So why is Ghana an LEDC? How can we tackle the development gap? Are there any solutions? How our lives in Kuwait compare to the lives of people in other countries, especially developing countries. What is development? How can we map development around the world? What is an LEDC? What is an MEDC? 1 Tackling the development gap The world's largest population Revision & Exams Term 1 revision and exams. ]

Sustainable tourism / Ecotourism A challenge in the Broads Understanding the importance of tourism in the global world of the 1 st century. To know what a tourist is and the reasons for the recent growth in tourism. To identify the different types of tourism and the benefits it can bring to a country. To identify the problems that tourism can cause and conflicts can be caused by tourism? What is the rock cycle? How does it happen? What are the main types of rock? What is weathering and what are the different types of weathering? What are the effects of weathering? What are the rocks that we find around the UK? Why does the UK have different types of rocks? Understanding the importance of tourism in the global world of the 1 st century. 11 A slice through the earth 1 Our cracked earth. How are the plates moving? 1 End of term Exam (0 marks)
