7 Density, Sound Velocity and Concentration Determination Accuracy: g/cm 3 Repeatability s. d.: g/cm 3 Measuring range: 0 to 3 g/cm 3 Minimum sample volume: 2 ml Portable Density Meter: DMA 35 The DMA 35 portable density meter measures the density and concentration of samples on-site. For use in hazardous areas an Ex version is available. The housing of the DMA 35 Ex Petrol version is resistant to petrols and similar organic samples. Results are given as density and concentration, such as Brix, % v/v alcohol and API gravity. External Measuring Cell: DMA HP/HPM The external measuring cells DMA HP and DMA HPM measure density and specific gravity at high sample pressures and/or high temperatures. It is used on samples with a high viscosity and/or high melting point or softening range such as bitumen, pitch or concentrated polymer solutions. This allows determination of the concentration of sulfuric acid and oleum in the concentration range from 0 to 114 % H2SO4, and determination of the concentration of three-component samples. It provides automatic viscosity correction of the results.

8 Beverage Analysis Beverage Analysis: PBA-B and PBA-S/SI Generation M Anton Paar provides beverage analysis systems for beer, soft drinks and soft drinks with sugar inversion. In a single work step the beverage is measured directly from the package, without sample preparation. Depending on customers requirements, it determines original extract, alcohol, extract, Brix, CO 2 and optionally O 2 content. The typical measuring time is 2 to 5 minutes. The patented NIR measuring method is approved by malt beverages. The patented, MEBAK-approved NIR measuring method eliminates the influence of other sample constituents on the alcohol measurement and therefore generates highly precise results. Alcohol Analysis Systems: Alcolyzer Wine/Plus Spirits Alcolyzer Wine measures the alcohol content of wine and sparkling wine using a patented NIR measuring method. Other sample constituents do not influence the alcohol analysis. Alcolyzer Plus Spirits determines alcohol (35-65 % vol), color and the ph value of alcoholic beverages. Both systems are optionally combined with a density meter to determine further parameters such as the total extract. The measurement is not influenced by other dissolved gases. When combined with the PFD Filling Device, sample is taken directly from the package and measured by CarboQC with no loss of CO 2 during sample transfer. CO 2 /O 2 Measuring Module: CarboQC ME with Option O 2 The CarboQC ME CO 2 /O 2 measuring module determines the true amount of dissolved carbon dioxide and dissolved oxygen in soft drinks, beer and sparkling water. The CO 2 measurement is performed based on the patented Multiple Volume Expansion method. The optional O 2 measurement is carried out with an optochemical sensor. The measuring module can be used in Anton Paar s Generation M analysis systems PBA-S, PBA-SI and PBA-B. Alternatively, the MCP 200 polarimeter series provides accurate measurements of the optical rotation of liquids at an economic price. 12 Modulyzer/Modularity Multiple Parameter Analysis As an alternative to using a number of single instruments, Anton Paar now provides complete systems for measuring a series of parameters in one cycle. Each modular system is configured to measure the parameters required. Parameters include: ph, color, optical rotation, sound velocity, density, refractive index, degree of fermentation, CO 2, O 2, alcohol content, extract, apparent extract, turbidity, Brix, Purity, and many more. Example: Pharmaceutical Industry Measured parameters: Density, sound velocity, concentration, optical rotation, ph, color, refractive index. The following instruments can be used in stand-alone mode or in combination to monitor the quality of pharmaceutical products throughout the supply chain: DMA density meter, DSA 5000 M density and sound velocity meter, RXA and Abbemat refractometers, MCP polarimeters, color module and ph module. This space-saving instrument combination including an Anton Paar sample changer is called Modulyzer. The entire system is controlled and managed through a powerful, easy-to-use PC software package with LIMS and data export interfaces. Example: Brewing Industry PBA-B Generation M combines an Alcolyzer Beer ME, a density meter (DMA 5000 M or DMA 4500 M), the CarboQC ME, and the PFD filling device. A measuring cycle takes 4 minutes, with no sample preparation required. The sample is measured directly from the package in a closed system, without loss of CO 2 or alcohol. It can also calculate the dilute solution viscosity, intrinsic viscosity, relative viscosity and other properties of polymer solutions. Measurement is possible with as little as 150 µl sample volume. Kinematic Viscosity: SVM 3000 Stabinger Viscometer The SVM 3000 Stabinger Viscometer measures the dynamic viscosity and density of oils and fuels according to ASTM D7042. From this result, the viscometer automatically calculates the kinematic viscosity and delivers measurement results which are equivalent to ISO 3104 or ASTM D445. The instrument is used for investigations into the flow and deformation behavior of emulsions, dispersions, coatings, gels and pastes. RheolabQC can be operated in controlled shear rate (CSR) and controlled shear stress (CSS) mode. Automatic Sample Changer: ASC The ASC Automatic Sample Changer for MCR rheometers and RheolabQC allows the fully automated measurement of up to 32 samples in one run including the cleaning of the measuring system. 16 Process Instrumentation Process Density Sensors and Evaluation Units Anton Paar s density sensors continuously monitor the product quality of liquids online during production. The temperature-compensated density or concentrations such as Brix, % Alcohol, % H2SO4 and API index are either calculated and displayed by an mpds 5 evaluation unit or calculated by the sensor and provided as a 4-20 ma signal. The mpds evaluaton unit determines density, sound velocity and temperature and uses these values to calculate the concentration of three-component liquids. Process Sound Velocity Sensors Anton Paar s sound velocity sensors are used for inline concentration measurements, phase separation or product identification. Depending on the sensor, the concentration is either calculated and displayed by an mpds evaluation unit or calculated by the sensor and provided as a 4-20mA signal. Sensors are available for aggressive and corrosive liquids and for low flow rates. It continuously displays the viscosity and temperature of lubricants, starch adhesives, suspensions and many more process liquids, allowing 24-hour production monitoring. Sample temperature range: -5 C to +200 C Inline CO 2 Sensor: Carbo 510 Carbo 510 is an inline CO 2 sensor which continuously monitors the CO 2 content of beverages. It has a hygienic design, constructed according to EHEDG guidelines. The display can be positioned up to 250 meters from the installed sensor. 20 Surface Characterization Electrokinetic Analyzer: SurPASS The SurPASS electrokinetic analyzer is used in surface analysis to investigate the zeta potential of macroscopic solids based on a streaming potential and streaming current measurement. It provides information on surface charge and related properties and detects the smallest changes in the surface properties. For Small Samples: SurPASS + Adjustable Gap Cell Using an Adjustable Gap Cell with SurPASS allows the zeta potential to be determined on small samples with a rectangular or disk shape. Samples as small as 20 mm x 10 mm can be measured. It is also used for investigating porous materials or materials which swell strongly. It allows high-throughput screening of liquids and solids and provides multidirectional positioning for sample mapping and automated experiments. Temperature-controlled Sample Holder Units for SAXSess mc² The TCS sample holders for SAXSess mc 2 permit the measurement of almost any kind of sample, including liquids, dispersions, powders, solids, gels, pastes, foils and films. Sample temperature is controlled between -150 C to 300 C. Standard sample holders and a range of special sample holders are available.
