Möbius Group LLC Analysis report Determining retention properties of floating absorbent product that is used on the sea or on the surface of inland waters Carbon Adsorbent Cedre L PLG May 2016
Analysis report Report L Date : 23/05/16 Contact person: Pascale Le Guerroue Pascale.Le.Guerroue@cedre.fr Request on testing Company: Mobius Group LLC Contact person: Vitaliy Fesenko and Nazar Burban Purpose: Determinate retention properties of the product Carbon Adsorbent The case: 29/04/16 Performer: Pascale Le Guerroue Approved Samples Type / Origin: floating adsorbent Receipt of samples: 19/04/16 Report Read: J.Giomarsh Approved Quantity: 2 sacks of 3 kg External distribution:: Möbius Group LLC 1 copy in pdf Inside copy : A&M Service: 1 Privacy: Х Conclusion Conclusion Tests in the laboratory allow to obtain the following results: Product Carbon Adsorbent in powder form is hydrophobic (ratio Cr water / Cr saturation is below than 0.25). It maintains, however, 0.02 times from his balance water. Due to the difference that exists between C r saturation and Cr 90% of this product has good capillarity. According to standard NFT , the product holds, at saturation, 4,0 ± 0,3 times from his balance hydrocarbons, as required, given the estimated volume density 0.127, volume saturation Tests have been conducted on hydrocarbons referred to in the link, the viscosity of which is from 42 to 45 cp at 20 C, showing that the product adsorbing Carbon Adsorbent WMS is to be recommended as an adsorbent for pollution floating medium viscosity hydrocarbons on the surface. 2
Analysis report Determining retention properties of floating absorbent product intended for hydrocarbons in accordance with procedures approved by standard NF T Product: Carbon Adsorbent Form. 4 Determination of the capabilities of retention of floating absorbing product, designed for hydrocarbons, according to the NF T standart. Визначення спроможності утримання плаваючого абсорбуючого продукту, призначеного для вуглеводнів відповідно до стандарту NF T Conditions of testing : Time of application: 20min Draining time: 20min Temperature, while testing: 20 С Analysis solvent: dichloroethane Modification of the standart : the shell is at 25 incline during draining Retention of water According to the NF T standard, the capacity of retaining water by the floating absorbing product, designed for hydrocarbons, is being determined. 3. Hydrocarbon applied: BAL ,7% unrefined light Arabic oil (BAL 110) + 6,3% non-aromatized hydrocarbon. Density at 20 С : 0,88 ± 0,02 (estimated density: 0,890) Viscosity at 20 С : ср 4. Results The tests were conducted on the material in the form of powder. 4.1 Retention of hydrocarbons Table 1 demonstrates achieved results, according to NF T standard, presented in the graph 2. Table 1: Capacity of retention of Carbon Adsorbent Initial weight of hydrocarbons (gram) Initial weight of adsorbent (gram) Weight of retained hydrocarbons (gram) 24,025 6,067 21,355 3,96 3,52 24,179 4,835 21,927 5,00 4,54 24,386 4,014 15,393 6,08 3,83 25,496 3,583 14,141 7,12 3,95 24,126 3,095 12,442 7,80 4,02 24,455 2,704 9,887 9,04 3,66 24,594 2,606 10,644 9,44 4,08 r : The ratio of the initial mass of hydrocarbons to the weight of adsorbent. Table 2: Capability of water retention Cr water Cr water/cr saturation 5,941 0,239 0,04 0,01 5,916 0,226 0,04 0,01 5,913 0,000 0,00 0,00 Mass of adsorbent Cr water Cr saturation : Capability of water retention : Capability of hydrocarbon retention when saturated 5
5. Notes : 5.1. Capabilities of retention in relation to hydrocarbon Laboratory tests proved that: Conventional point at Cr 90%, point at which main hydrocarbons are well seized by adsorbent (losses during drainage are only 10% of incipient hydrocarbon) is 4,3. Capability of retention while saturated in vase is 4,0. Capability of retention while saturated in volume or Cr of saturation (volume) is 0,57 (calculated considering the estimated density of adsorbent) Capabilities of retention in relation to water In the same testing conditions, when contacting water, product Carbon Adsorbent absorbs water 0,02 times its weight. Relation Cr water/cr saturation is 0, Accuracy of calculations Retention of hydrocarbons Saturation threshold is determined by the interval, which corresponds to the following terms: (r₁-r₂) / [ (r₁+r₂))/₂] = 0,61( 0,1) Given parameters give an opportunity to check whether the saturation threshold was achieved Confidence interval of 95%, according to Student s Law, of Cr saturation is ± 0,3 Error bars are 7,0% ( 10%). Water retention Results at the level of relation Cr water/cr saturation for different observations have a deviation of 0,04 points in relation to the mean value. 6
6. Conclusion Product Carbon Adsorbent in a powder appearance is hydrophobic (relation Cr water/cr saturation is less than 0,25). Nevertheless, it retains water 0,02 times its weight. Considering the difference between Cr saturation and Cr 90%, this product has a good capillarity. According to NFT standard, this product retains, while saturated, hydrocarbons 4,0 ± 0,3 times its weight, which is 0,57 saturation volume, taking into account approximate bulk density 0,127. Test conducted with hydrocarbon, mentioned in a reference, which viscosity is cp at 20 С, shows that adsorbing product Carbon Adsorbent can be recommended as a floating adsorbent for hydrocarbon contamination of a medium viscosity on the water surface. 7
