4 General requirements for target operation: - lifetime extremely long; no need to repolarize ; but, CANNOT quickly repolarize either! power and LHe cannot go away, ever! I. HDice Lab:! 0.25 MW from dedicated diesel generator with 60 KVA UPS to remove switching glitch! 500 L dewars of LHe, commercially filled (Linde) II. Hall B:! new 22 KVA feed from diesel generator with UPS to remove switching glitch! 500 L buffer dewar of LHe, filled from ESR - spare 500 L dewar from HDice Lab, if needed - Target transfers " the trickiest part of the target cycle Requirements for tgt cycle
5 Steps in bringing a polarized HD target to CLAS Remove from dilution refrigerator with Transfer Cryostat (0.010 K and 15 T) (2 K and 0.1 T) Requirements for tgt cycle
6 transfer to Production Dewar for pre-run NMR polarization measurement - 2 K and up to 2 T transfer to Storage Dewar, mounted in shock absorbing frame K and 3 T crane onto truck and drive to Hall B remove Storage Dewar (SD) from shock frame and crane to level 2 deck remove from (SD) with transfer cryostat and load into IBC on level 1 Requirements for tgt cycle

12 Beam characteristics and target alignment General target requirements: - target cells are 15 mm 50 mm long - alignment: approximate with warm fiducial survey; use counting rates to find the center when cold Photon running (E06-101): - 60 na max e -, stopped in tagger dump - photons from 10 4 r.l. radiator; 2 mm bremsstrahlung collimator, with 6 mm cleanup after Pair spectrometer 10 mm max on target - centered w segmented CLAS Start Counter surrounding target cryostat Electron Tests: - i) May 11: 0.5 na max, stopped in Hall B dump ii) Dec 11 or May 12: 10 na, stopped in Hall B dump - alignment procedure: a) use brem photons and detectors to center beam; b) remove radiator and degauss tagger magnet - raster beam over 10 mm Beam Characteristics and alignment
