14 WEATHER FORECASTING INFORMATION (VOLUME 3) by Jeanette Vuuren explains how meteorologists use their knowledge and skills - focusing on aspects of nature, as well as information provided by weather instruments - to help them predict the weather. It also explains how different industries are affected by weather and why they heavily rely on weather forecasts for their safety and productivity. The three resources, WEATHER FORECASTING RESOURCES & PRINTABLES (VOLUME 4), WEATHER FORECASTING MAPS & SYMBOLS (VOLUME 5), and WEATHER FORECASTING WALL CHARTS & SUMMARIES (VOLUME 6) are related to this book. The RESOURCES & PRINTABLES booklet includes printable science and language activities such as weather report templates & scripts, helpful sentence starters & phrases, questions, answer sheets, flash cards, and word lists. The MAPS & SYMBOLS PowerPoint presentation includes all the information junior primary students will need, as well as extra information for higher year levels, to write their own weather report and deliver the weather forecast. WALL CHARTS & SUMMARIES includes labelled charts and summaries with colourful pictures related to the books and resources in this WEATHER SERIES - VOLUMES to keep handy during class activities. These four resources (books and PPT) are aimed at year 2 students, but include information and differentiated resources - in Celsius and Fahrenheit - that will most certainly benefit students in higher grades, as well as student that speak English either as an addition, second or foreign language. All the resources are aligned to Common Core State Standards and the Australian Curriculum and include colourful photos and pictures. WEATHER FORECASTING INFORMATION (VOLUME 3) by Jeanette Vuuren consists of 85 pages and includes the following topics; METEOROLOGY & THE ATMOSPHERE METEOROLOGISTS ASPECTS THAT HELP PREDICT THE WEATHER - wind, temperature, precipitation, humidity and air pressure INSTRUMENTS THAT HELP PREDICT THE WEATHER anemometer, weather vane, wind sock, thermometer, barometer, rain gauge, hygrometer, satellites, weather balloons, radar, weather stations DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CLIMATE AND WEATHER IMPORTANCE OF WEATHER FORECASTS agriculture, shipping, forestry, fishery and transportation (aircraft) METEOROLOGISTS SKILLS - journalism WEATHER WORD LISTS SUMMARY of the whole book to keep handy during activities RELATED REOUSRCES by Jeanette Vuuren HOW IS THE WEATHER? - INFORMATION HOW IS THE WEATHER? The blue triangles point to the warmer air. cooler air L warmer air WARM FRONT: A warm front generally causes light to moderates showers and rain or snow ahead of the warm front. A warm front occurs when warm, moist air replaces cold, dry air. The red semicircles point to the cooler air. warm, moist air cold, dry air STATIONARY FRONT: A stationary front normally causes showers and thunderstorms on both sides of the front and can result in extensive flooding given the right conditions. A stationary front is a boundary that has essentially no movement, but separates warm, moist air from cold, dry air. The triangles point towards the warmer air, while the semicircles point towards the cooler air. Warm, moist air cold, dry air
