You can help the Fire Department by ensuring the hydrant near your home or business is kept free from snow.

Mailbox Regulations & Damage Policy Mailbox placement regulations must be approved by the U.S. Postal Service.

The Village will not replace mailboxes that are damaged by snow thrown from snow plowing operations.

1 Winter Tips... Help Keep Fire Hydrants Clear Every winter fire hydrants may become buried in snow. This creates a difficult situation for the Fire Department when they need to locate and use the hydrants. You can help the Fire Department by ensuring the hydrant near your home or business is kept free from snow. Please keep the path from the street to the hydrant clear as well. Your assistance is appreciated! Mailbox Regulations & Damage Policy Mailbox placement regulations must be approved by the U.S. Postal Service. Failure to comply may result in damage to your mailbox. Properly installed mailboxes physically hit by a Village snowplow or truck may be replaced by the Village. The Village will not replace mailboxes that are damaged by snow thrown from snow plowing operations. The Village may provide a temporary mailbox until weather permits a permanent replacement. If your mailbox is damaged during snow plowing operations please contact the Public Works Department Snow Removal Please be kind to your neighbors and postal employees, keep your residential or business walkway section clear of ice and snow. Remember...it is hazardous to shovel, plow, or blow snow onto any public street. All shoveled, plowed, or blown snow should be piled in the yard or parkway. OCTOBER 2017

2 From the Desk of the Chief of Police Contacting Winnebago Police A Winnebago police officer may be contacted by calling for non-emergencies, or by calling for an emergency situation. These numbers are answered by a call-taker at the Winnebago County Center 24x7. An officer will be dispatched to your location upon your request. Winnebago is a safe place to work and live, and we do have our share of crime. Please don t hesitate to contact us if you see something that appears to be suspicious or just doesn t seem right. We need your assistance. Winter Parking The winter season will be here very soon, so please be aware that the police department enforces the Village s snow parking ordinance. This ordinance is explained within Village Ordinance No , more commonly referred to as Snow Removal Parking Regulation Ordinance. As you can probably understand, the main intent of the ordinance is to allow efficient and effective snow removal while protecting and safeguarding against injuries to persons and property. Since Winnebago does not have an odd/even system for parking, the ordinance clearly states that no person shall park any motor vehicle on any street located within the corporate limits of the Village of Winnebago after snow has fallen to a depth of 2 inches or more until such time as the snow has been plowed to the side of the street. The ordinance authorizes fines amounts between $25.00 and $50.00 for each offense and there is also a provision for the police officer to tow any vehicle that is parked in violation of the ordinance. She weaves historical research with actual personal accounts of the hauntings into her stories of the weird and unusual happenings in the Forest City. Please call Hydrant Flushing The Village of Winnebago Public Works Department will be flushing and flow testing fire hydrants, beginning the week of October 9th and continuing through October 20th, weather permitting. The fire hydrant flushing and maintenance may take place at all hours.
