2 GOAL The City of Lee s Summit s snow and ice goal is to provide a high level of customer service to our citizens within available financial resources, while also providing an operational balance for the City and its employees by effectively equalizing work time and time off.

3 CAN WE ACCOMPLISH THIS GOAL?

4 The snow plan outlines steps for the completion of storm response within 32 ½ - 48 hours after precipitation has ended provided that required levels of equipment and personnel are available.

5 Levels of Response Level 1 (pre-treat) Level 2 (<1 of snow) 24 hrs Level 3 (1 6 of snow) 32.5 hrs (6 10 of snow) 40 hrs Level 4 (10 or more snow) 48 hrs Level 5 (sustained winds >30 mph) 48 hrs (NOTE: all streets that have not been previously treated with salt brine will be pre-treated with salt.)

7 We strive to have bare pavement following winter weather events which means that all streets should be plowed and/or treated from curb to curb. (NOTE: bare pavement may not always be attainable in all circumstances due to low temperatures, precipitation or other various factors.)

9 Communication Use these 10 codes when communicating with other trucks, Supervisors or the Emergency Operations Center affirmative (OK) 10-7 out of service 10-8 in service 10-9 repeat

10 Breaks Lunch Breaks 30 minutes paid between 12:00 & 2:00 Rest Breaks 15 minutes approximately 10:00 approximately 4:00

11 Shift briefing Begins promptly at 7:00 (be on time) Silent cell phone and PAY ATTENTION Route assignments Crew leader Response activity Lunch break Seat belt Safety apparel Check the white board for application rates.

12 Pre-shift check Walk around the truck to make sure there is no damage. Check fluids Cutting edge is in good shape. Equipment is fueled. Snow map is in truck Snow route book is in truck. Spreader is full of salt.

13 During the shift check Each time you stop for a break Walk around the truck to make sure there is no damage. Check fluids Check the cutting edge to make sure it is intact and in good shape. Check your lights Check to make sure your spreader is working correctly. Check for cavitations Tie downs on spreaders

14 Post-shift check Walk around the truck to make sure there is no damage. Cutting edge is in good shape. Equipment is fueled before shift change. Leave the snow map in the truck Make sure shift Supervisor is informed of any concerns. Clean your stuff out of the truck.

15 Media If the news media makes contact with you, give them the number of the Emergency Operations Center. (816) Bob Hartnett is our media liaison for interviews. At times Bob will assign that task to other employees.

16 Accidents If you are involved in an accident, call the Emergency Operation Center (Snow Desk) on the radio immediately. If it is a life threatening emergency, call 911 An accident report must be filled out by you as well as by a supervisor. pictures must be taken. DO NOT leave the scene of an accident until PD tells you to do so.

17 Last Thoughts 1. Arrive ready to work. physically mentally properly dressed 2. Inspect lights, hoses, wipers, spreader tie-downs, etc. at every break. 3. Think ahead and plan your route. 4. Don t sweat what the other drivers are doing way radio Call-in & monitor for updates 6. Watch your speed when driving 7. Obey traffic laws 8. Use My Grandma s Street approach
