25 Flood Protec_on UT Health Ini_al Flood protec_on is provided by a berm that consists of flood gates, concrete stairs, concrete walls, road humps, buildings and earthen landscaping The perimeter berm provides protec_on 1 foot above the 100 year flood plain level (45') with the top of the Medical School loading dock at 47 Six sump pits have been installed around the Medical School to handle rainfall within the berm's perimeter
26 Flood Protec_on UT Health There are 23 flood doors that make up the Medical School perimeter Each flood door is designed so that it may be closed by only one person in under 5 minutes Closure sequence of the flood doors is based on a risk assessment with flood doors in the lowest lying areas shut first The Medical School building is also protected by a hydrosta_c wall and aquarium glass

50 January 9 th 2012 Event At its peak, Brays Bayou was channeling more than 25,300 cubic feet of water per second, or 84% of the full capacity peak flow of 30,000 cubic feet of water per second. The TMC, however, did not experience flooding during this storm due to many FEMA funded flood protec_on projects implemented in and around the Texas Medical Center.
