Answers ID : in-4-time [4] (1) 30 We know, half past 11 = 11:30 hours Here, we have to calculate the time the clock will take to strike 12. Hence, we have to subtract 11:30 hours from 12:00 hours. 12:00 11:30 0:30 So, it will take 30 minutes for the clock to strike 12. (2) We know that there are 60 minutes in one hour. Akshiti drives 84 km in one hour, or 60 minutes. Let us first find out the distance travelled by her in one minute. She travels 84 km in 60 minutes, so she will travel km in one minute. Since, we also know that there are 1000 meters in 1 km, so , or meters in 84 km. Step 4 So, she travels meters in one minute. Step 5 If she travels meters in one minute, she will travel , or meters in 14 minutes.

(3) 4 hours and 35 minutes ID : in-4-time [5] Surjeet started watching the TV at 10:05 PM, or 22:05 hours. He watched the TV till 2:40 AM, or 02:40 hours. The time for which he watched the TV can be calculated by subtracting 22:05 hours from 02:40 hours, which comes out to be 4:35 hours, or 4 hours and 35 minutes.

(4) 11 metres ID : in-4-time [6] The car is travelling at the speed of 39.6 km per hour. This means that the car can travel 39.6 km in one hour. Remember, whenever we say 1 km, we mean to say 1000 meters. This is because there are 1000 meters in 1 km. Step 4 In this way, when we say 39.6 km in one hour, we mean to say meters in one hour, or meters in one hour. Step 5 Thus, the car can travel meters in one hour. Step 6 This means the car can travel meters in 60 minutes (there are 60 minutes in an hour). Step 7 This also means that the car can travel meters in = 3600 seconds (there are 60 seconds in each minute). Step 8 In 3600 seconds the car can travel meters. In 1 second, it can travel meters Step 9 This means the car can travel 11 meters in a second meters= 11 We have got our answer. This was a long way to find our answer, and we did so to understand things better. 1 If you wish to convert speed in km per hour to meters per second quickly, just divide the speed in km per hour by 3.6 to find speed in meters per second. 2 By this quick method, 39.6 km per hour = 39.6 km per hour 3.6 = = 11 meters per second

(5) 5:30 ID : in-4-time [7] First of all we will have to look at the position of the hour hand. It points between 5 and 6, so the time is between 5 o'clock to 6 o'clock. Now, the minute hand is pointing at 6, which means it has travelled 6 5 = 30 minutes. This clearly states that the clock is showing 5 hours and 30 minutes of time, or 5:30. (6) 5:00 In the clock shown, the hour hand is between 2 and 3 and the minute hand is at 9. Therefore, the time shown on the clock is 2:45. It is given that the next class arrives when the previous class leaves. Since each class spends 45 minutes there, total time spent there = 3 45 = 135 minutes = 2:15 hours Therefore, the third class will leave the book fair after 2:15 hours. Now we can find the time when the third class leaves by adding 2:15 hours to the time shown on the clock: 2:45 + 2:15 = 5:00 Step 4 The third class will leave the book fair at 5:00.

(7) 15:05 ID : in-4-time [8] According to the question, Shilpa and her friend went to watch a movie at 12:15. We know that the movie lasted for 170 minutes. Let us convert 170 minutes into hours. We know that 60 minutes = 1 hour So, 170 minutes = 2 hours and 50 minutes To calculate the time at which they left the movie hall, we have to add the time at which they went to watch the movie and the duration of the movie. So, the time at which they left the hall = The time at which the movie ended = 12:15 + 2:50 hours = 15:05 Step 4 Hence, Shilpa and her friend left the movie hall at 15:05. (8) d. According to the question, Ramakrishnan left for office after 11 o'clock but before half past 11 o'clock. This means he left for office somewhere between 11:00 and 11:30. The only option that shows the time between 11:00 and 11:30 is option d. Hence, option d is the correct answer.

ID : in-4-time [9] (9) A) 10 1 First of all let's look at the position of the hour hand. It points between 12 and 1. So the time is between 12 o'clock to 1 o'clock. Now, the minute hand is pointing at 10, which means it has travelled 10 5 = 50 minutes, or = 10 minutes less than 60. We can say that the clock is showing 10 minutes to 1. B) 5 6 First of all let's look at the position of the hour hand. It points between 6 and 7. So the time is between 6 o'clock to 7 o'clock. Now, the minute hand is pointing at 1, which means it has travelled 1 5 = 5 minutes. We can say that the clock is showing 5 minutes past 6. C) 5 10 First of all let's look at the position of the hour hand. It points between 10 and 11. So the time is between 10 o'clock to 11 o'clock. Now, the minute hand is pointing at 1, which means it has travelled 1 5 = 5 minutes. We can say that the clock is showing 5 minutes past 10.

ID : in-4-time [10] D) 15 6 First of all let's look at the position of the hour hand. It points between 6 and 7. So the time is between 6 o'clock to 7 o'clock. Now, the minute hand is pointing at 3, which means it has travelled 3 5 = 15 minutes. We can say that the clock is showing 15 minutes past 6. (10) A) 5:55 We know that 5 minutes to 6 means 5 minutes less than 6, which can also be written as 5:55. B) 7:50 We know that 10 minutes to 8 means 10 minutes less than 8, which can also be written as 7:50. C) 12:10 We know that 10 minutes past 12 means 10 minutes more than 12, which can also be written as 12:10. D) 5:05 We know that 5 minutes past 5 means 5 minutes more than 5, which can also be written as 5:05. (11) A) Any 1 from the following 2 answers: 05:30, 5:30 Half past 5 means 30 minutes after 5. This can be written as 05:30.

ID : in-4-time [11] B) 12:15 A quarter of an hour means 1 4 of an hour or 15 minutes. A quarter past 12 would mean 15 minutes after 12, which can be written as 12:15. C) Any 1 from the following 2 answers: 03:15, 3:15 A quarter of an hour means 1 4 of an hour or 15 minutes. A quarter past 3 would mean 15 minutes after 3, which can be written as 03:15. D) 12:30 Half past 12 means 30 minutes after 12. This can be written as 12:30. (12) A) 142 We know that there are 24 hours in one day, which means there are 5 24 = 120 hours in 5 days. So, 5 days and 22 hours = = 142 hours

ID : in-4-time [12] B) 650 We know that there are 24 hours in one day, which means there are = 648 hours in 27 days. So, 27 days and 2 hours = = 650 hours (13) 9 10 AM The flight reached at 02:05 PM, or 14:05 hours. The flight took 4 hours and 55 minutes to reach Pune. So, the time when it started from Kolkota would have been 04:55 hours less than 14:05 hours. 04:55 hours less than 14:05 hours = 14:05 hours - 04:55 hours = 09:10 hours or 9:10 AM. (14) A) 7 15 AM The time given is 05:35 AM, or 05:35 hours. We have to find the time after 1 hour 40 minutes, or 01:40 hours. Now adding the time, we get 05: :40 = 07:15 hours or 7:15 AM. Step 4 This means that 1 hour and 40 minutes after 05:35 AM will be 7:15 AM.

ID : in-4-time [13] B) 1 55 PM The time given is 11:35 AM, or 11:35 hours. We have to find the time after 2 hours 20 minutes, or 02:20 hours. Now adding the time, we get 11: :20 = 13:55 hours or 1:55 PM. Step 4 This means that 2 hours and 20 minutes after 11:35 AM will be 1:55 PM. (15) A) As we know there are 60 minutes in 1 hour, which means there will be 7 60 = 420 minutes in 7 hours. And as we know that there are 60 seconds in 1 minute, which means there will be = seconds in 420 minutes. From above two steps, we can conclude that there are seconds in 7 hours. B) As we know there are 60 minutes in 1 hour, which means there will be 9 60 = 540 minutes in 9 hours. And as we know that there are 60 seconds in 1 minute, which means there will be = seconds in 540 minutes. From above two steps, we can conclude that there are seconds in 9 hours.
