Children use the lower level for dramatic play and puppet shows. After climbing the ladder like stairs to the second story, young adventurers can observe their surroundings through plexiglass covered windows. These units were designed for just that purpose and have been moved around and re-purposed several times since their installation at CMU s Child Development and Learning Laboratory. Whether its an indoor pergola or this home like piece of furniture, all pieces are custom built to ensure that adults still have the ability to readily observe the children at play. You can also easily hang fabrics, lights, materials from nature, children s work and more from the beams above or from the top shelves. Its purpose in children s outdoor play can change minute by minute and day by day, but it is sure to be a favorite and will be well used. Northwoods Blocks are designed around the natural shape of the tree and inspire a connection with nature in the children (and adults!) who play with them. Each set of 28 blocks comes in a natural cream colored cotton drawstring bag that includes the Blue River Mill logo imprinted on the front. A card indicating the types of woods used in each custom set is included with the blocks. In order to provide an all natural wood product to the customer, no chemicals, oils or finishes are used in the production of these blocks. Plastic figures and trees are NOT included. The ears are leather and the seat is cushioned for long days in the saddle. The natural contours and finish options showcase the individuality of the materials used and the elegance of the meandering boards and wood grain. These freestanding beds include two cross supports for the box springs. Custom ordered beds can be crafted with red cedar boards and posts with white cedar setbacks, or the process can be reversed with white cedar posts and boards with red cedar setbacks. Each bed is absolutely unique. For those who want a more conventional style, this bed includes four solid posts with a setback design, optional carving adornment and two cross supports for box springs. With this bed, the shape is more structured than the rustic bed. The bed shown here is oak with a hand rubbed tongue oil finish, but can be custom designed in hickory or maple as well.
