1 Snow Day Mission Inside Caution: Do not open unless school is cancelled for a snow day!

2 Day one: I Spy/Scavenger Hunt Fun I Spy: Play I Spy while on the couch, around the house, or looking out the window to find shapes and colors (take turns with your child and look for different shapes and colors around the house, describe the shape/color) Play I Spy while on the couch, around the house, or looking out the window to find letters and numbers. ~Look for items with a specific letter on it. Identify beginning letter sounds, find something that begins the same letter as child s name. ~I spy rhyming words) Draw on or trace the items child spies (use finger, pencil/paper, etc ) Hide & Seek-get 3 items and hide in the house. ~Give child clues to find (ex; car-the car is where we keep things to drink, use words like under, behind, between, to describe location) Place 3-5 toys on a table/floor. Ask child to close their eyes and take away (or cover up) one/two/etc what is missing? ~With items that have been removed, have child describe it (the use of it, the texture, make up a story, etc ) Motor Development-count how many steps, hops, etc it takes to get to an item, room, or from person to person. Help us create a fun snow day activity list to share with our families! Please share fun activities you do as a family on a snowy day.

3 Day two: Sock Day! Sock Day: Indoor Snowball Fight-roll up socks and have fun! Sock Toss-toss socks into a target (basket, chair, etc ) ~Count as you throw Sock Sorting & Matching (sort size/colors, match pairs) Arrange By Size (big to small/small to big) Sock Skating (dance/skate around the house in your socks, use socks as dancing streamers, etc ) Sock Puppets (use markers to create faces/designs on socks) ~Put a sock on your hand and have a puppet show Sock Writing (arrange socks into shapes, letters, numbers, etc ) us your sock day or general snow ideas.

4 Day three: Household Day! Household Day: Snowball Fight- create an indoor snowball fight using household materials (cotton balls, toilet paper, newspaper, paper towels, receipts, etc ) Sensory Writing (use finger to write/draw/make faces etc in pudding, flour, salt, rice, shaving cream, dry oatmeal, etc ) Snack Time (count cheerios, sort snacks by colors, shapes, sizes) ~Use addition and subtraction to describe, etc Make a Meal (list/talk about ingredients needed, steps to make meal, measure, scoop, pour, stir, etc ) Play Dress-Up- work on zipping, buttoning, putting on coats, taking coats off, snaps, buckles, etc Obstacle Course (crawl/walk/hop/jump/climb, etc over/under/between/around household items- use pots and pans, baskets, chairs, tables, etc ) Create a Band (use pots, pans, laundry baskets, spoons, bowls, empty/full food containers, etc and make music). ~Practice loud/soft, copying patterns, etc Make a Puzzle/Collage (cut up greeting cards/cereal boxes, etc and make a puzzle or create a collage) us your ideas).

5 Day four: Weather Day! Weather Day: Frozen Drawing- draw on a frozen window using finger (with/without gloves) Snow Discovery-bring snow in! (bring snow inside the house feel/hide items inside. ~Watch the snow melt (time the melting process) ~Put outside to refreeze (time refreezing process) ~Make snow cream, scoop, pour, etc Item Freeze (freeze items such as small toys, buttons, string, etc in a variety of empty containers). ~Try to get the item out of ice-explore in sink/bath tub, etc Build a Snowman (bundle up and go outside and build a snowman, bring snow inside and build a miniature snowman). ~Watch a snowman melt. ~Use marshmallows, cotton balls, etc.. to build a snowman that won t melt. Prints in the Snow (bundle up and go outside to make tracks in the snow by hopping, walking, snow angels, etc ) ~Go outside (or look out a window) to find animal and/or man-made prints (bird prints, dog prints, tire tracks, foot prints, etc ) Snow Writing (outside or inside draw/write in the snow. Can use finger, writing utensils, or items such as a spoon to shovel snow, Q-tips, paint brushes, etc ) Indoor Igloo (use blankets, chairs, tables, etc to make an igloo/fort. ~Inside the igloo, read, tell, or make up a story, draw a picture, take a nap, or eat a snack. us your ideas.
