The Red Foxes won all three of their games in the MAAC championship, defeating #3 Canisius 6-2 on Thursday, #1 Fairfield 11-8 on Friday and #4 Iona 5-1 on Saturday to win the program s sixth MAAC Championship and first since Scott Boches, Frankie Gregoire, Andrew Rouse and Matt Pagano were all named to the MAAC All-Tournament Team and Tony Romanelli was named the MAAC Tournament MVP. MARIST IN THE PROS: The Red Foxes currently have five former players involved in professional baseball. Kevin McCarthy ( ) was called up to the Kansas City Royals on Monday (5/29) after opening the season with the Omaha Storm Chasers, the team s AAA affiliate. In 2016, McCarthy became the first former Red Fox to have his contract purchased by an MLB team and was the first to appear in an MLB game when he made his debut on Sept. 9th at the Chicago White Sox. In 10 games for the Royals, he pitched 8.1 innings and went 1-0 with a 6.48 ERA, surrendering 11 hits & eight runs (six earned) to go along with five walks, and seven strikeouts. Zach Shank ( ) plays for the Tacoma Rainiers, the AAA affiliate of the Seattle Mariners. Shank was on the Mariners roster for the 2017 Spring Training and played in 22 games with a.368 average.
