This will be the Red Foxes third trip to the MAAC Baseball Championship in the last six years. The Red Foxes, guided by Head Coach Chris Tracz, came in to the final weekend of MAAC regular season play needing to win two out of three games to cement their place in the post season, and won the first two games in a doubleheader at Saint Peter s on Saturday, May 16. During the 2015 season, the Marist baseball team pitched its first shutout in both ends of a doubleheader since 2007, took the then #1 Virginia Cavaliers to 18 innings before falling 5-4, and reached the postseason for the second time in last three seasons. The Red Foxes finished the season with an overall record of and earned a birth to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Baseball Championships. 5 How They Got Here:The Red Foxes finished MAAC Play securing the six seed in the tournament. Marist finished conference play with a 2-1 series win over Saint Peter s. After getting swept by Canisius the Red Foxes won 4-of-6 heading into the tournament Among Conference Leaders:The Red Foxes currently sit second in the MAAC in team batting average with.280, slugging percentage with.383, on base percentage with.364, triples with 15, and sac bunts with 42. They also rank first in team fielding percentage at.973. Where We Stand:Marist enters the contest at overall. The Red Foxes are 4-2 in their last six games, and took two of three games in a weekend series at Quinnipiac the weekend of April The Comeback Kids: The Red Foxes have done well playing from behind in MAAC play this season. Marist has won 12 MAAC games this year, in six of those wins the Red Foxes trailed by at least three runs in the fifth inning or later. This Year s Captain: The Red Foxes have only one captain on this years team, who is serving as a captain for this first time. The captain of the 2015 Marist baseball team is senior first basemen Steve Laurino. Experience At The Top Of The Rotation: Senior righthanders Evan Davis and Chris Napolitano, and senior lefthander Rich Vrana have experienced arms at the top of the rotation. Prior to this season the three pitchers combined for 42 starts, and110 appearances on the mound. This year they comprise 70 percent of the starts this season. What s Back: The Red Foxes return nine position players who won varsity letters last season, seven of which saw considerable playing time. Ryan Lynch has seen considerable playing time this season starting 12 games third base, and six at second base. Charlie Jerla has made 16 appearances on the mound including two starts and two wins. 6 CHRIS TRACZ Head Coach Sixth Season Marist Record: Year MAAC Overall 2015^ Total ^ Through May 17, 2015 PERSONAL Chris Tracz pitched for the Red Foxes from , and hold the school records for victories, innings pitched, strikeouts and starts, and is tied for the program record for ocmplete games. Following his graduation, he served as pitching coach for the Red Foxes from In 2009, Tracz was the pitching coach at Army, and helped guide the Black Knights to an NCAA Tournament appearance. A 2005 graduate of Marist, Tracz earned his Bachelor s degree in Public Relations while minoring in Psychology. Tracz resides in Pleasant Valley with his wife Katie, daughter Taylor, and son Carter. Arguably the greatest pitcher who s ever worn a Marist uniform, Chris Tracz is in his sixth season as head coach of the Red Foxes. He has guided Marist to 155 wins in his six seasons and has finished.500 or better in a season four times in his tenure. He led the Red Foxes in his first season in 2010 to 33 wins which was tied for the second-highest single-season total in program history.
