4 The Opening Serve - Just four home matches remain for the University of Evansville volleyball team with a pair on tap this weekend as the Purple Aces welcome Bradley and Illinois State to Meeks Family Fieldhouse - UE takes on the Braves on Friday before squaring off against the Redbirds on Saturday evening; both matches begin at 7 p.m. Near the top - Rachel Tam s torrid pace continued last time out at Loyola as the junior notched 18 kills in 43 tries - Her season total of 402 kills ranks third in the nation while her points is seventh in the NCAA - Tam checks in with 4.47 kills per set, a total that remains second in the MVC and 16th in the country - Through 11 conference matches, Tam has posted 11 or more kills on nine occasions - Her hitting has also continued to excel, since finishing at at Illinois State, she has hit.230 or higher in five of the last seven matches - She has contributed 16 service aces this season, registering one in four of the last six matches - Tam was named to the All-Tournament Team at Dayton, posting a total of 36 kills in the three matches; her effort in Dayton came on the heels of a 25-kill match against Tennessee State - Tam has finished with at least 11 kills in 21 out of 24 matches in 2018; she has recorded 20 or more on 8 occasions while hitting.240 or higher 10 times - Tam had one of the best weekends in program history in leading the Purple Aces to a perfect 3-0 mark and the Leatherneck Invitational Championship with 79 total kills including her career mark of 29 at WIU - Entering the 2018 season, Tam s career kills mark was 27, which she broke twice in the opening three matches. Helping on both sides - Mildrelis Rodriguez continues to be a steady force for the Aces, ranking second on the team with 2.89 kills/set and second with 2.70 digs per game - She is one of three current Valley players to have 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs in her career and as of Oct. 15, one of just 13 in the nation - Rodriguez has finished with at least seven digs in 10 of the 11 MVC matches - Another impressive effort against Tennessee State saw her post a career-high 24 digs while notching 14 kills - She has 9 double-doubles this season including two of the last three matches Picking up the slack - Olivia Goldstein leads the Purple Aces with 3.16 digs per set and has had 10 or more in four of the last six outings - For the third time this season, Goldstein reached the 20-dig mark as she tallied 20 in the road contest at Drake - She saw extended playing time in the Elon trip and responded in a big way, posting back-to-back 24-dig performances in wins over Gardner-Webb and NC Central, both were the highest totals of her career - Her previous career mark in digs was 22 In a Groove - Allana McInnis has posted 22 or more assists in each of the last seven matches while improving her season average to 7.07 per set - In her first 26 sets this season, she had 3.77 assists/game, but has upped that significantly in the last 39 sets, finishing at 8.5 assists per frame over that span - That included the top match of her college career against Tennessee State, where she had a total of 60 assists in leading UE to a 5-set win; she posted 52 at home against Missouri State - McInnis earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team as UE hosted the Dunn Hospitality Invitational on Sept. 8 - She enjoyed a strong freshman season in 2017, pacing the Aces with a total of 836 assists, an average of 7.40 per set, 9th in the MVC - McInnis continues to play well as a sophomore, notching 7.07 assists per game Contributing as a freshman - Freshman Alondra Vazquez continues to get better as the season moves along - She has recorded at least eight kills in each of the last six matches while posting at least eight digs in seven straight outings - Her accuracy has been stellar as she has hit at least.240 in five of the last six contests - Vazquez set her career mark with 21 kills against Missouri State; it also marked her first double-double - In conference play, she checks in with 2.87 digs per game and set her career high with 19 in the match at Bradley Holding her ground - Evansville s most accurate hitter in 2018 has been Kerra Cornist - Currently hitting.221 on the season, Cornist has excelled in conference play, hitting Included in that tally was a.643 effort against Indiana State that saw her post 10 kills in 14 attempts with just one error. 5 Secret Weapon - Entering the MVC opener against Loyola, Elena Redmond had two service aces on the season; she turned that around against the Ramblers, posting a total of four - She followed that up with two more in the road contest at Drake and a pair against SIU Scouting the Opponents - Bradley will be the first opponent of the weekend; the Braves come to Evansville with an 18-5 mark while going 8-3 in league action - Erica Haslag leads the Braves with 3.82 kills per set, which is third in the MVC while Yavianliz Rosado heads the Braves defense with 5.69 digs per game, second in the conference MEEKS FAMILY FIELDHOUSE When the University of Evansville volleyball team took to the floor for their home-opening contest on September 8, 2017, they played on Lois D. Patton Court inside the Meeks Family Fieldhouse on a brand new Taraflex floor. - Illinois State starts the weekend with an 18-5 overall record and are 10-1 through their first 11 league outings - Marissa Stockman is the most accurate hitter in the Valley, checking in at.351 while Stef Jankiewicz leads the league with assists per frame Formerly Meeks Family Court, the Fieldhouse will house the Purple Aces volleyball and women s basketball teams. New amenities of the facility include: - New bleachers on the west side of the facility - Chairback seating - Taraflex floor for volleyball (1st facility in the MVC to do so) - Resurfaced women s basketball floor - New baskets - Upgraded sound system - New main videoboard, score/stat board, LED scoreboard on each sideline and two video sideline boards - Updated volleyball netting equipment - Wall graphics on both sides of the arena UE is also excited to honor women s sports pioneer Lois D. Patton by naming the volleyball and women s basketball floors in her honor. Patton, a member of the Missouri Valley Conference Hall of Fame, was honored with two ceremonies last 5
