The double-elimination tournament begins on Wednesday. Mountaineers Turn Three Twice! West Virginia has turned two triple plays this season, the most in the NCAA with one at TCU (4/5) and one at Maryland (5/13) With runners on first and second, TCU attempted a double steal. The batter lined out to shortstop Taylor Munden, who touched second base and threw to first base to complete the first triple play of the season. Maryland had the bases loaded with no outs when the batter lined the first out to third baseman Michael Constantini, who threw it home not realizing he caught it on the fly. Catcher Cam O Brien threw it back to Constantini, who tagged third for the second out and threw to second baseman Billy Fleming at second base to complete the feat. Fleming Completes Rare Cycle At Kansas (5/11), Billy Fleming completed the cycle for just the second time in program history and 16th time in Big 12 history. Fleming began the game 4-for-4, including his first career home run, a solo shot over the left field fence. He finished the contest 4-for-6 with two RBIs. The only other WVU player to complete the cycle was Bob Spangler in 1998, while Ross Kivett of Kansas State had a cycle earlier this season for the last Big 12 player to do so. Texas Series Win Notes Longhorn pitchers failed to strike out a Mountaineer hitter during Sunday s game, marking just the third time since 2005 that that has happened. Texas hurlers last failed to register a K against Baylor in 2008 and Nebraska in West Virginia s 12 runs represented only the fifth time since 2009 that Texas pitchers have allowed 12 or more runs in a game. West Virginia s back-to-back series wins against Texas in 2013 and 2014 marks just the seventh time since 2003 that a Big 12 team has managed to do so. Bring the Brooms With three wins against Kansas State two weekends ago, West Virginia completed its second Big 12 series sweep since entering the conference in In 2013, the Mountaineers swept Kansas at Linda K.
