4 SUMMARY Licence 8217m was reduced to the new licence 19491m comprised of two claims which contain the Six Mile Brook virginite occurrence. A visit was made to the property to mark and confirm the claim boundaries before the reduction took place. A sample of high grade Virginite collected several years ago was slabbed and polished with excellent results.

5 2 INTRODUCTION Location and Access The project area, now consists of 2 claims which straddle the Baie Verte highway approximately 9 kilometers south of the Town of Baie Verte and 3 km ESE of Southern Pond. It is easily accessed by the Baie Verte Highway. (Figure 1 and 2) Figure 1 Project Location Map Physiography The claim block is bounded on its western edge by a high (150 meter relief) escarpment but drops dramatically on its eastern flank to a gentle slope. Drainage is fair-poor with the sloped area consisting mainly of small treed knobs surrounded by small areas of bogs or small ponds. The area is variably wooded with black spruce but in the vicinity of one of the virginite deposits there is an abundance of jack pine.

Property Summary and License Status The property now consists of 2 contiguous claims (Figure 2) previously owned by Nathaniel Noel which were staked in early September of 2001 with the license, 8217m, being issued on Oct 5, 2001 The ownership of the claims was transferred to E.Michele Noel in In 2011 the 8217m license was reduced to 2 claims and the new license 19491m was formed. All claims are in good standing. Previous Work The area has been the subject of several exploration programs which were searching primarily for gold and base metals. This study focused primarily on the Virginite (fuchsite-carbonate-silica schist) which outcrops on the property and its potential as a material for use in the production of crafts and also its potential use as an ornamental stone. On the Baie Verte highway there are two known and notable occurrences of virginite (Figure 3). The first and best known outcrops at the northwestern end of Flatwater Pond and is henceforth referred to in this report as the Flatwater Pond Occurrence (FPO) This occurrence is listed in the Newfoundland Department of Mines Mineral Occurrence data

7 4 and has been, in the past, the subject of some scrutiny for its potential as an ornamental stone. That occurrence is currently held by Jamie Meyers. Figure 3 Virginite Occurrences on Baie Verte Peninsula The second occurrence, the subject of this study, which is located in the Six Mile Brook area and is henceforth referred to as SMB in this study, appears to have been overshadowed by its neighbor to the south, and largely ignored. In 1999, a limited project was carried out to assess the potential of the SMB virginite as a dimension/ornamental stone by a consortium made up of the brothers Gushue, Eugene Kenny of Kenny s Marble Works, and John Hurley of Images in Slate inc. Simply put, their conclusions were that the virginite in the SMB occurrence was unsuitable for use as a dimension stone due to its fractured nature and the fact that it appeared to be less dramatic in appearance and therefore have less appeal than the virginite at the FPO occurrence. Also, the sporadic occurrence of disseminated pyrite was considered to be detrimental. (Tim Gushue pers. comm.) The claims were allowed to lapse.

8 5 In 2002 the property was again staked, this time by the author who conducted an examination and sampling of the two known virginite occurrences. Approximately 1.5 tons of material was brought back to St. John s and tested for suitability for craft production. Preliminary results showed the material to be suitable for craft production and plans to test the material for ornamental use were then drawn up. In 2003 the site was visited again to test the suitability of two large minivan sized boulders (figure 4) located on the shore of a small pond next to the Baie Verte highway and examine the possibility of transporting them to a rock cutting facility. The boulders were slashed with a chop saw and found to consist of high grade and competent virginite however it was deemed unsuitable at the time to extract them. Work was also conducted to plan and prepare for a trenching and drilling program on the SMB occurrence. Figure 4 Mini Van sized boulder with saw cut exposing high grade virginite.

9 6 GEOLOGY Regional Geology The property actually straddles the boundary between the Humber and Dunnage Tectonic Zones which underlie most of the Baie Verte Peninsula. These two zones are separated by a major structural break/fault zone called the Baie Verte Line (BVL). The Humber Zone to the west of the BVL consists primarily of Cambro-Ordovician shelf facies sedimentary rocks and their metamorphic equivalents which may in part be underlain by Pre-Cambrian metamorphic rocks of Grenvillian age. The Dunnage zone on the east consists primarily of Ordovician-Silurian oceanic volcanic rocks and their derivatives and metamorphic equivalents. Property Geology The property is split into two halves by the Baie Verte Line (BVL) which runs NNE- SSW in this area. The western half of the claim block is underlain by metamorphic rocks of the Birchy Complex and forms the high escarpment. It consists of greenschist and amphibolite, metasediments, and melange. The eastern half is underlain by mafic volcanic and volcanoclastic rocks of the Flatwater Pond Group. The virginite occurrences represent a thin sliver of altered ultramafics believed to have formed at the base of the Birchy Complex. CURRENT PROGRAM The current program consisted of a GPS survey to prepare for a reduction of the property. The intention was to reduce the property to a minimal number of claims but still maintain the rights to the virginite. Limited prospecting was conducted while performing the survey. Work also consisted of some limited polishing tests on a block of high grade virginite which had been collected previously.

10 7 WORK DONE A total of 1 day was spent working in and accessing the project area while in the Baie Verte area as part of another project. A day was also spent slabbing and polishing a block of the virginite. Field work was conducted in mid-july of 2011 out of a hotel in Baie Verte and the slabbing and polishing was conducted in early September of the same year. Work consisted of establishing the claim boundaries of the two claims (to form license 19491m) to insure and confirm that the claims would still include the main virginite occurrence. The general band of virginite was also walked and plotted. (Figure 5) The survey was conducted using a Garmin GPS with an accuracy of 2 meters. 11 8 RESULTS It was found that the property could be reduced to a total of 2 claims and still encompass the main virginite occurrence. This was completed in the fall of 2011 and formed the new license 19491m. The block of high grade virginite collected previously (figure 6) was slabbed and one slab was carefully polished using a pneumatic polisher equipped with a water feed and resin type polishing pad. The slab was polished to 600 grit. Hand pads were then used to take the polish to 1800 grit. (Figure 7) Figure 6 Block of high grade virginite The material took a very good polish in part due to its high silica content however the slabbing process took its toll on the saw blade. The blade used was a 14 inch continues rim blade chosen to reduce ridging during the cutting process. This blade was the property of the studio of Nathaniel Thomas Noel and the cost was included in the daily rate. Figure 7 Polished slab of virginite.

12 9 CONCLUSIONS AND RECCOMENDATIONS The claim block was reduced successfully to 2 claims and the new license 19491m was formed. Slabbing and polishing of a previously collected block proved to be very successful. It is intended that the site will again be visited and more of the high grade virginite be collected for additional testing.
