3 MAIN PURPOSE of the NBCE Draw up and issue NATIONAL GUIDELINES FOR THE PROTECTION OF COASTLINE FROM EROSION PHENOMENA AND CLIMATE CHANGE EFFECTS Draw up indications for the ASSESSMENT of EROSION PHENOMENA and NEEDS of SEDIMENT Draw up technical and environmental indications for the installation of COASTLINE DEFENSE STRUCTURES Draw up indications for the MANAGEMENT of LITTORAL SEDIMENT and the characterization and monitoring on RELICT SAND DEPOSITS Outline the pertinent REGULATORY FRAMEWORK and REGULATORY GAPS to be filled

4 MAIN PURPOSE of the NBCE Purpose is pursued focusing the attention on: Actions for coastline control Actions for coastline protection Actions for adaptation to erosion phenomena Effectiveness and durability of actions for protection Habitat diversity and naturalistic value Assessment of effects on environment from actions for protection Purpose is pursued also taking into account all relevant results coming from pertinent national and international projects and initiatives, such as: Livorno Charter MATTM projects Local or regional guidelines COASTAL Mapping
